Really wish this was an MMO
Iv been hunting around dabbling in hundreds of MMO's over the last few years trying to find one that had all the features i look for.
If PoE were an MMO, it would be the closest, and its the new game im playing while i continue my hunt for a decent MMO. Love the game. Classes seem good, Skill tree is interesting, like the use of Gems, Tetris style bags are always good, Quests being pointed at Mini-bosses etc rather than kill 25x whatever is always a plus. Random mini bosses are also good. Lots of other things good too. So when youve got this sorted, hows about you go make an MMO along the same lines, but take out instances, make everything open to PvP (i love battles for bosses), include death drops to make things more interesting, and maybe a crafting system that isnt Guaranteed recipe's and has some risk to it. Worth a try =) |

While the devs love to say the game is not an MMO, let's be real.
PvP, complete with arenas and dueling? Coming up in one of the next patches. A trade economy that flourishes with player interaction? Plans to expand the trad system? Yep. Global chat, multiple chat channels? Yes. A friend system? Yes, and a guild system is planned for the future as well. Towns where you can see other players, while you create private instances a la guild wars? Checkeroo. An endgame (meaning the game isn't necessarily over for you when you finish the game)? Yeppers. Always online, no offline option? Yes. A cash shop? Uh huh. If Guild Wars was an MMORPG, then this is an MMOARPG in the exact same way. Last edited by teacherpeter#1699 on Jun 30, 2012, 1:21:16 PM

" Added to your points what i look for. As for what an MMO is. To me, the more instanced areas you have, the less its an MMO. This is an ARPG with online towns and Co-op. Last edited by GimmeAKitKat#5045 on Jun 30, 2012, 1:42:56 PM

You will love the Cutthroat League. There are arenas and duels in the normal league, but in Cutthroat you can access anyone's instance at any time and attack them. They drop everything on death.
We don't know anything about GGG's plans for guilds. It's planned for an expansion after Open Beta, last I heard. Act 3 town will be pretty big. Seen the screenshot? Endgame - Have you read the latest Dev Diary about the maps endgame? Dude, the cash shop is purely cosmetic. See GGG's Beta Manifesto and FAQ. They have sworn that they will never sell combat advantages in any form through the cash shop. Everything is purely cosmetic, and there will be no Pay2Win function. |

" This i wasn't aware of. Sounds very interesting. Thanks for the heads-up. Will have to give Cuttthroat a try. Though it being instanced could go wrong. If you can enter anyones instance wihtout them being able to stop it, it will be too easy to harass people. half the fun is randomly coming across poeple and fighting, or the hunt around bosses looking for people. Having instant access to anybody doesnt sound great. Maybe im just too picky. |

A mmo is very time consuming too make, and this game is going to be supported for years and still needs alot more development.

" You're one of millions who do this. There's a massive crowd of people who just hop onto the latest MMO and then drop it a month later. ADD or something? I dunno, but you can't make a $100m video game for an audience that's not going to stick around. Especially not when an indie studio is going to make it. The money isn't there and the risk is too high. Besides, MOST people who MMO hunt are just looking for a fix to replace WOW. They won't find it, because you cannot directly compete with WOW and hope to survive. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282

Im an mmo hunter and I know the feeling, but Im not trying to replace wow since I was never a wow player, I look for an mmo to replace shaiya, but since I know that might never happen Im happy being an exile.
ZOMG ITS BETA TIME!

I played WoW but by no means am looking to replace it. WoW is pretty much my anti-ideal-MMO
Basicly, im looking for a replacement or evolution on Legend Of Mir 2. An old Korean MMO. It was the biggest MMO in the world at one point, though on Korean servers, and still holds a few records i believe for people online at the same time. It was basic, but did stuff well, and its many of the features from that game that i look for, though you very rarely see them in newer MMO's. Western ones especially. Basicly, full PvP, and completly open world, not a single instance. Attack anybody anytime. Lvl's were open ended but exp gain became so slow that you basicly hit a cap range, and there were maybe 7-8 bosses that could drop all the best stuff randomly. Bosses were on timers, spawning 1/2/3 hours after they were killed. Person with "agro" of sorts when it died, got the drops. skills were found (as books, which you could sell if rare or learn). and skills themselves lvled as used. Crafting was dangerous - basicly you mined various types of ores, you would then take your sword say, and give it to the blacksmith with ores and an item that held the stat you wanted adding to your sword. 2 Hours later, you if very lucky, or after trial and error finding your own recipe (which wasnt guaranteed even then), got back your weapon inproved. However more often than not the item would stay the same or be destroyed. Also had a guild run town which guilds could compete over (similar to other games that have used the same mechanic) which gave cheaper pots and repairs to the guild running it, and any money spent there was available to the guild for building defences. |
