Make PoE great again - the ONE portal has to go

I'd rather GGG just nerf players and monsters across the board. Game feels great act 1-3 and turns into PoE1 Zoomer slop by the time you get a few supports in.

Dear devs,
I see you try to make "something new" to attract more people to your game with PoE2 being a dumbed down version of PoE1, but the one death per map penalty is at this moment just useless. It serves zero purpose.

We're talking about trade league ofc.
So here's the state of the game: people on the top of the foodchain will not die most of the time and clear the maps normally, get all the loot, go clear next.
Other players, not so good skilled and/or geared, will die more and while not only losing XP, which is bad enough, but they will also lose any loot they could potentially go back to pick up, they will lose a chance to come back with their stronger char or even, after they died to, say a powerful map boss, call a friend to help (it's called socializing, you basement dwellers).

Having one life per map is just pure stupidity and bad game design.

Before "git good" comments - it's not about me, I don't die. I have over 200 hours ingame, maybe 300 already, tons of currency, lvl 91 infernalist, 85 gemling, sparkmage, titan etc, farm 15-16 tier maps etc. I just read forums, reddit and youtube comments - people are NOT happy. Frustration is the key word. Stop losing customers maybe?

At the current state of the game and it's economy, the one death per map rule is just a prohibitive barrier for newer players, who already suffer enough, but inability to even re-try the fight or pickup some of their pitiful loot to at least try to sell/buy different gear is just idiotic. It benefits no one, doesn't add to the difficulty of the game in a sensible way, it just has to go.

PoE1 worked perfectly with 6 portals/lives. Fix your game pls.

I do not get what you are talking about the one death per map has been the same since Path of exile was created. It just never had an atlas before. You only get to try each map once then it disappears on Path of exile one as well. What is this sudden surprise that you seem to be exhibiting? Nothing is different from POE 1?

Trolling, irony or you just haven't played PoE1? In PoE 1 softcore you can die, respawn in hideout and re-enter map as long as you got portals left.

I love all these comments

"It forces you to make a balanced character"
- how? All I do is make a glass cannon that kills everything in 1 second so it can't touch me "balanced"

-follow a guide so I don't make a mistake and make my life harder "diverse and experiment with builds"

All you people claiming the game is easy I would bet your build is so silimilar if not clones of the meta builds its laughable.
I truly think the middle ground is letting people buy up to 2 extra portals with gold, but make it expensive like 100k per portal so people cant just spam portals on every low tier maps, but will save it for things like bossing or highly juiced maps.

It's a decent idea, but why?

What exactly does 1 portal do, other than just pure punishment?

No it will not "force you to get better" you can only improve if you know why you failed. This game doesn't tell you how you died, so no this isn't a thing.

It's a punishment multiplier as you lose more things than in poe1. This leads to everyone meta gaming making the game worse period full stop.

6 portals worked fine in poe1 and if people don't like it, then self impose 1 portal on yourself, play hard-core or hope for a ruthless mode in future?

And frankly I think this creates a better progression experience - not because it's punishing, but because it forces you to build & play your chars in a more balanced way.

We got hardcore for that. Not everyone wants to only play sweaty games.

Their "vision" is obviously a souls-like game with rogue-like mechanics. A pure design flaw, imo.

Hopefully the one portal stays.
Mash the clean
No one who plays SC wants one death per map, it's awful.

Actually i like this idea honestly (maybe not stupid expensive like 100k gold since it takes like 50 good rares to make that kinda gold) But maybe have a system that can help you mitigate deaths to some degree. But it also makes you put real thought into how you build your character and not try to make some META glass cannon as stated in this tread and make a truly balanced character in attack and defense.

Making a way to somewhat mitigate losing the map would not be a totally bad idea but Losing the map helped me to put effort into my build and I Respec'd to a much better and more complex build incorporating powerful attack and respectable defenses.

I have not had a problem since except by the one thing I do agree with changing ' Surprise one shots' Which is honestly the only truly bogus thing IMO that needs to truly be addressed.
