One Portal would be no problem if the maps were somehow balanced.
But most of the time i do a map for 99% with almost no efford or risk of dying then there is one rare with meteor, lightning, stun, freeze, instant death and before i can even read or react, im fromm 100% to 0% and dead. Another way to die is to stupid after death explosions or some unknown stuff i dont even see because of the clutter in the screen. Ya, some of those explosions are well telegraphed, like those fatties getting red and bigger and then explode. Still totally unfun, becaus ei dont want to stand there for 3 seconds because im on a bridge or narrow corridor so i cant pass nor loot. If i know ths will be the ultra death map an i have to be carefull alle the ways through the map, then im finde, because i chose this. But not like brain afk the whole map and then dead before i can blink. |

I understand that probably most players don't like the penalties for death and I'm myself quite pissed when I die in PoE 2 and lose the map content.
But... It's better if GGG fixes other issues, before reverting back to '6 portal meta'. Eg.: - The number of map bosses should be tripled - Maps should be smaller and / or less of a nightmare to navigate - Travel checkpoints in maps - There should be less visual clutter (environment & effects) - Ground effects & on death effects should be toned down (way too much of them) - Base movement speed should be increased a bit (cca 15%) There's lots of improvements GGG can do to make the experience better, without removing the one portal penalty. I die much less in PoE 2 than I used to in PoE 1 where it doesn't matter much. And frankly I think this creates a better progression experience - not because it's punishing, but because it forces you to build & play your chars in a more balanced way. When night falls

"Its not hard if u play the right build u mean which is mainly because of balance issues. Life builds are very weak and have almost no way to scale more hp and armour is pretty much useless in its current state on top of soo many mobs with overwhelm and armour break that will hit u once and strip all ur defence. Energy shield on the other hand is pretty busted, ez to scale and combined with grim feast and high block chance/evasion or both combined + using a meta skill the game becomes very ez. As far as i remember poe 2 was supposed to make melee viable again but in its current state with life being totally absent from skill tree and armour being useless + things like mace skills being slow as f... i would say its even worse than poe 1. |

I am honest. I did not play PoE1 too much. most likely not really anyhow and never got to End-Game.
I decided to give PoE2 a try and I was quite happy with the game (as it is still early access - I am totally aware of this) until we (yes, I wrote we, as we like to play together) reached current end-game with the maps mechanic. For us it really feels punishing to play together and then, as someone has overseen something, had a wrong reaction, was just simply stupid or whatever to blame our-selfs dies. you have two options. Screw the map and throw it away to play together again or the one, who died has to wait until the map is finished (or perhaps even failed 5 minutes later due to "lack of skill", wrong build, ...). This feels really sad. Why anyhow placing 6 portals, if you anyhow have just one live per team-member? give us a chance to play together. Resurrect a fallen colleague or just give us "6 lives" - one per each portal. I do not play with whatever suggested build, as I want to have the freedom to choose, what i want and what i like to play. I do not demand to get everything as a present to have the total IMBA-Char. I just want to have fun with friends and family. I will fail at hard maps for sure, but I do not see a reason to destroy the feeling of cooperational gaming. Perhaps another solution would be to "scale" the ammount of lives. (perhaps the idea is stupid, as I did not reach higher map tiers until now): Maps from 1-4: 6 lives Maps from 5-8: 4 Lives Maps from 9-12: 2 Lives Maps 13+: 1 Live |

The devs are never going to balance oneshots or archnemesis. Any veteran player knows this, those things are part of "The Vision".
So, the only other choice left is for them to allow people to use their 6 portals. The system works perfectly fine and there was no reason to change it. No bargaining for a middle-ground, we want our 6 portals back. Also no 6 portals doesn't affect trade league economy that much, and 99% of sc trade players don't care about that anyway lmao And finally to all the people saying "but everyone's gonna play glass cannon builds and rush maps with 500 life and negative resists". That doesn't happen in PoE 1. In fact the meta of builds there is quite more diverse than in this game because you have 6 portals so you are free to play way more builds and just have fun.(but also because we don't have arbitrary limitations like 1x copy of support gem lmaaao) Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Jan 8, 2025, 8:44:12 AM

"Agree with most of this except the last part. Some chars simply dont have access to scaling the right defences as most of what is currently ez to play are very much focused on a combination of es/block and evasion with grim feast. Life/armour builds are completely garbage atm, its literally a night and day difference |

I think they need to mix it. I'm fine with 1 portal for your basic every day mapping......if they tone down the horribly designed, overused on death crap along side the just offscreen detonate dead casters. On death would even be okay if you could CLEARLY see its coming. But you can't. There is to much cool looking shit going on, on screen to even see it coming. In fact with those toned down I would say I LIKE the 1 portal and done. It adds a bit of reason to actually pay attention.
On bosses though. Don't like it at all as a.....less than great player. When you first hit maps it takes forever to even fight your first T-0 boss and get that small atlass tree going to fight them more often. Now, if I don't look up the fight, I have 1 attempt. I don't mind dying. I mind that I can do really well, but once I hit that one shot mechanic I know nothing about, thats it. Then I get to farm for 30-40 hours or more to even try again. No thanks. So what would be my solution to this? T-0 gets 4-6 portals. Lower them from there to just 1 portal at T-4. Even if its just 2 for T-1 and 1 for T-3/4. Lets not talk about citadels. That obviously needs a whole lot more work before we even worry about arbiter attemps. |

" Yes, that's true. Balance across defense types & classes also needs to be addressed, if this 'one portal' system is to stay. But if GGG can't balance the game and make it more fair, then it's probably better they introduce a more lenient penalty, say 3 - 2 - 1 portals as you climb up the map tiers. Or something like this.
