Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?

And since they want more than 200 bosses for the full game, that's a whole lot of dying to do. One attempt per boss means you'll never learn any of them.

How so? Majority of those bosses are introduced during the campaign where you get Checkpoints.

What campaign are you playing that has over a hundred bosses?

Also: the bosses in maps are supposed to have different mechanics than they did during the campaign.

Infinite portals? Checkpoints for bosses. A new boss should require multiple deaths to overcome: first few to learn the mechanics, then a handful more to figure out how to win, then finally executing everything correctly.

except...not really. HC exists for a reason. Death is not a given EVER, nor should it be. If you die a few times to every boss.....that's an indicator of a skill issue. Or a build issue. Or both.

In fact, if a boss forces (or tends to force) death on everyone, that means that there is a fundamental problem with the boss, literally the opposite of what you stated here.

GGG please make an experiment, do a checkbox (no default, so player has to choose explicitly) for "race/xp loss" at least in EA, and decide from there.

I would guess that it is not a hard problem to implement technicaly, but it fragments playerbase into multiple chunks which might not be desirable in final release.

Hardcore is a thing. Reaching endgame should be a rare event requiring hundreds of hours of game mastery to accomplish.

Bosses "requiring" multiple deaths to figure out is a sign of a challenging boss.

People still can and do achieve deathless runs in the hardest souls-like games, but "normal" is to Die, Die, Again.

You need to change the terminology you are using, because I don't believe you are actually saying what you mean to say.

For the record, I do agree with your underlying point.

But "require" has a very strong and specific meaning. You are "highly likely" to die multiple times is much more accurate (vs: you NEED to die multiple times) The average player will take hundreds of hours of playtime to master the skills needed to reach endgame. But it is by no means a requirement.

However, if you are a good enough player, there is no boss nor any situation that will EVER require death. As I said, if that is a requirement, it is a sign and symptom of something incredibly WRONG with the game design.

Requiring or needing to die is a staple of the rogue-lite / rogue-like genre, not this one.

I wonder if this thread topics will be touched on the announcement ! I hope they will address all of them!
"Thankyou for all your feedback. We have received alot of feedback and suggestions for POE2 and would like to let you know we are still listening. So we will be making improvements to increase the difficulty of certain end game bosses. While we understand this may not affect all players except those who have reached the ultra end game we want you to know that we will continue to make the necessary changes to ensure "the vision" is upheld. Thankyou".
On the bright side, once you reach 0%, you will not lose xp on death!
You know what would REALY suck?

The 10% loss is only for Act3. Once you reach Act6 (once they put it in) the XP loss will be increased to 20%.
