We need Real Crafting
Loving the game, however.
The state of crafting right now is shameful. It's just RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG. I'm not pushing to remove drop values. But at least we could have basic esssences working as augmentation instead of transmutation, that way we could take a good magic drop and add something of value instead of having it be fucked up by current aug RNG. As is right now, we can essence something to have maybe something of value and then have the aug fuck it up and god forbid we add a regal cause that shit will get pawned. There is just very little point in trying to craft anything as 99% of the time it's only going to become a worse item than it was. We need ways to add actually valuable, build oriented affixes to items, not every one of them, but at least 2. Right now most orbs are either useless (transmutes) or gone (exalted) and equipment is rarely if ever, improving. Rune system is awesome though, great addition. I agree. Real crafting would be awesome. Gathering gems and ore, and special woods and leathers to create gear from scratch would be so much more engaging than using orbs.
We could get forges and leatherworking stations for our hideouts. And special quests for unique materials, or to become like, a master armorsmith. That'd be dope. Last edited by Akedomo#3573 on Dec 30, 2024, 4:25:34 PM

I agree, right now, there is no crafting in the game, just gamba, and this reflects on how many people are actually using orbs, what happen is people grind for a good rare, not for base, not for magic, nothing of such.
I've been actually testing the crafting, i only traded 1 item so far, and it was a glove. i got around... 4 items MAYBE? that were worth form "crafting" others were rares with 4 mods, got 2 characters to maps, yeah, not a giga gamer, but items didnt helped at all to get gear improvment, i still use items from lvl 33 and 41 on both. Also yea, every lvl i actually go to EVERY vendor in the game to check what he got as new stuff, im THAT unlucky, did a lot of gambling on the NPC too, that was the thing that yelded better results. Fix 1 - make the reforge turn full packs of orbs into a higer tier, that would make people who drop the early ones be able to achive the other big orbs eventually, that also would give a fixed rate on orb prices. fix 2 - make orb of annulment waaayy more frequent, so all the items that get broken at least have a chance to get fixed in the crafting fix 3 - make essences add mod to a magic/reroll one random mod on a magic, and the other one turn it into a rare thats a HUGE start for crafting |

People who mastered POE1's "crafting" always tend to forget that POE1's "crafting" system is absolutely, utterly horrible in every conceivable way and is a significant cause of people bouncing off the game.
Yes, PoE2 currently has too rudimentary a system for a game where the goal was to "find stuff that's almost good and then try and modify it to be great." Massaging dropped items to a more usable state is in fact a Cool Idea, but we're not there yet. Buuuuuuuuuut..........POE1's obtuse, impossible to unerstand, overly finicky and complicated, and disastrously expensive "crafting" system is a failure in every conceivable way. That system is ONLY usable by PoE1 Ultravets who've spent over a thousand hours watching Ziz or Mathil or Ghazzy or whoever playing the game for them and understand the eldritch secrets of Infinite Currency generation. Everyone else - every 'ordinary' player, every casual gamer, every midcore POE1 player - just uses the bench to add "meh" mods to holes in their gear using low-tier currency. The only difference is the midcore people know how the trade website works and can get better base gear than the casual sorts; they still don't "craft" in PoE1 because "crafting" requires so many divines' worth of materials it's a complete and utter nonstarter. PoE1 is a system where using a currency orb by right-clicking on it, and then clicking an item to apply that currency orb to that item is - invariably and always - the absolute worst thing you can possibly do with that currency orb. That is bullshit, and it needs to die and stay dead forever. Say what one will about POE2's too-basic system right now - at least in this game I am using my currency. I'm burning exalts on things, I'm using the occasional chaos orb to try and slap-patch something with an amazing mod surrounded by crap. I am using my own currency on my own items, which is a thing only complete and total idiots do in PoE1. So yes. Better crafting in POE2: good. But PoE1 "crafting" does not count as "better", and it never will. She/Her

" I think you want to play an MMORPG ARPGs like D2 were always about farming until something good drops and chasing rare items. If you can craft powerful items easily then there is no thrill when finding good items. Most Arpg veterans aren't that bothered by RNG because they know that sometimes "nothing good drops" for a long time, but then they go on a luck streak and find something good 3 times in a day. Happened a lot me in PoE 1. One day I didn't make a single Divine, the other day I found one and something that was worth 7 Divines. It's one of the reasons people play these games, you'll never know what you're going to find. If you can just "gather 15 components" and craft perfect items the loot system looses the appeal. |

I wish I could get the good old crafting bench back with some PoE1-full-powered essences. I know I'd love to slam on a high tier % damage on my weapon, reroll until I get at least a second decent mod somewhere, and then craft on a 3rd mod.
That would definitely get me out of the quagmire I'm currently in and would vastly lower the frustration of crafting a "decent" weapon with MANY possible steps for failure that causes me to be disappointed with the results 1000 times before I get something "pretty decent". In the current meta either I spend 6K alcs & 6K bases [per craft of exile 2] OR hope that I get lucky with RNG-ish Chaos, Omens, etc. to fix up something that randomly was fairly close --- and that is for 3 decent mods -- not a dream weapon but a useable [potential?] upgrade for me. I don't want to think about the items where I have five or six useable mods on them. Last edited by KingAlamar#4071 on Dec 30, 2024, 4:46:49 PM

Developers should take a look at Last Epoch.

PoE1 crafting is not much better, there are just more ways to add RNG on top of the RNG so you can put some more RNG later.
Joking aside, PoE1 has at least some ways to force a result, like the +x skill craft |
