FYI, there is another version of PoE 1 that actually has an in-game marketplace, and it is fantastic
I'm sure some of the veterans already know, it is the Tencent version from China.
As someone who used that system and leveled up two lv 100 characters, I can tell you the difference between the in-game marketplace and the website is night and day. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1. Trading is instant, a huge time safer. Once you set the exact price, people can buy it through the system directly, no more messaging, no more visiting people's hideout, no more ignoring people's messages, this alone probably saved me 100 hours+. 2. You are more willing to sell cheap stuff. In PoE 2, once you get enough currency, you stop selling things that worth only 1 or 2 exalt, since they cost a lot of time to trade. Since now the system can now sell it for you, you are now more willing to put all those low-tier maps, mid-tier gears on sale since those exalts can accumulate really fast and it doesn't waste any time what so ever. 3. No more scammers. You can no longer set the price to 1 exalt to fool newbies, since it will just be sold. You'll no longer mistake divines with exalts since all trades are through the in-game system. Cons: 1. Easier to manipulate market. Once you are rich enough, it's easier to set the price of certain items by insta buy out cheap ones and resells them for higher. 2. Harder to get a "good deal". It's very unlikely that you'll buy anything for cheap, most likely those items will be snatched by "market watchers" or bots. 3. Market will be ruined faster. Things like MF will ruin the market way faster than the website. Once people find a loophole, the majority will be priced out if they don't pivot fast enough. Anyway, despite the three cons, the in-game marketplace is still far-superior in my opinion. The time saved alone will improve my experience as a trade-leaguer ten-fold. I know GGG's philosophy on trading, but I think it's very half-measure. You either go full SSF and fix loot and crafting all together or you implement an in-game market and stop wasting people's time. Fix ssf mode plz. Better loot and crafting options for ambitious casual gamers that do not have the privilege to earn money while they are gaming.
Trade is to scuffed and beyond repair, with or without auction house/marketplace |

In-game AH that's just an expanded Currency Exchange with gold cost, where you insta-sell items from your stash to players would fix literally all problems with trade atm. And because it costs gold to use, this stops any bots, flippers and scammers from using it all day 24/7 because you need to play the game to earn gold. Gold is a non-tradable currency that's basically a number representing playtime, its perfect to protect the auction house from bots and exploits by just putting a gold cost on it just like how Currency Exchange has one. Really just put normal equippable items and every other item under the sun in Currency Exchange and we have the perfect AH. |

" Adding gold cost is a good idea, the only other thing I would add is filters if you want to expand the currency exchange, since it's a must have for item trading. |

" I'm sure they can add in all the trade filters, even if this game has no support for in-game browsers all of those filters could just be in-game UI elements. Like the currency exchange is the best feature added to the game in its entire history, playing Settlers league was like whole new game because of it. I'm actually excited to play next league with this system implemented because I know how much it helps with early currency-making like selling all your scarabs and stuff. It's insanely good quality of life and removed all the tedious "whisper 50 people to convert your 500 chromatics into 10 chaos" shenanigans the game had before that. Even if they just added stuff like maps and other non-stackable items to it I'd still be happy, then I only need to whisper people for gear. But at that point they should just add gear into it eventually aswell, I know its a lot of work so it would probably take multiple leagues to fully convert it into an AH but I think it can be done right. |

It having an auction house might be the reason we aren't getting one. Tencent exclusive content and all. I believe they also have pets that pick up items but I could be wrong on that one.

" Yeah that would be very very cool and make all the people that stop playing in the early endgame, because of the hassle of trading, push forward. |

" Yes there are pets that pick up currency items for you, another time/click saver. I don't think it has anything to do with exclusivity. GGG just lets Tencent do whatever they want with their version since it's only for China, and their designers figured out the two pain points PoE 1 players have and monetized the shit out of it. (Both "marketplace" stash tabs and pets cost money) |

So if you saved 100 hours leveling 2 characters, you are estimating that for every 30 hours it takes to get to 100, you traded for 50 hours outside of the Tencent client?
Pros seem to be "if feels good" and cons are "makes the whole system useless faster". I choose to not have these cons - healthy market for a month is way more valuable to the game as a whole than one excessively unoptimized player saving 50 hours per character. Like how do you spend 50 hours trading on one character? |
