Do you think this game was a scam to get funding from Tencent and do almost nothing?
" Lol this is either epic level trolling or some of the best tin-foil hat conspiracy nonsense I've seen since the flat-earthers. What do you think GGG is? Or tencent by extension? GGG is a little f@$#ing pimple on tencents ass. GGG is a developer of roughly 100 employees who, yes, worked for 5 years. You see, the thing is, they worked on this, WHILE continuously releasing free DLC for PoE 1 during that time. In developing this game, they also made sure MTX and many items from PoE 1 work in PoE 2 which is a level of dedication to fan's who paid money for in PoE 1 that I personally have never seen before in any other game/sequel. Developers are usually happy to say, sorry the sequel is a new game you need to buy new stash tabs. Hell, they even went as far as to give free keys to people who spent over a certain amount in PoE 1. Not to mention they also included cross-play so PS5/XBox gamers can play with their (objectively correct in console choice) PC friends. How many AAA games left that feature out because it's "too complex" and their fan-bases are clamoring for it? Even cash volcanoes like Fifa and Madden, that publish new versions every year to tens of millions of dollars, haven't gotten into cross-play until 2024 and 2025 respectively. Your "reskin" certainly borrows from PoE 1, which IMO any sequel does, it's the nature of the business. You want to replicate what worked. Hell, there is a decent sized population furious at the devs for not making the game MORE like PoE 1. Do I like that the trials are reskinned ultimatums and sanctum? Nope, hate it, and hated those mechanics in PoE 1 as well. There is plenty of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism that can be leveled at this game, and should be in order to ensure this early access leads to a successful full-game launch. That said, I cannot deny that people worked on this game. Is it flawless? Hell no, that is what EA is for, to test, find bugs, re-balance, get feedback, and redirect your efforts based on said feedback. If you or anyone else is upset that you paid for an EA, and it is not a polished finished game, you're the sucker. It was clearly marketed and labeled as EA that would last 6-12 months, with many ascendancies, and half the classes not present at launch. Should GGG have paid Beta testers instead of using people willing to pay $30 bucks a pop to beta test? Not if they like money. Who would turn down a $50 million dollar windfall opportunity in order to spend MORE money on a beta test, with far fewer beta testers, who certainly wouldn't find as many issues or be as passionate as the actual fanbase? I'm personally the furthest thing from a corporate bootlicker there is. I generally believe that corporations exist for one sole purpose, to make a profit at the expense of any and everything else. That said, to imply this game is some massive conspiracy designed to defraud tencent is loony tunes. You can go back to your conspiracy theories. I'm going to enjoy playing with my melee based lightning Monk. (definitely a reskinned build from PoE 1 right?) /rant Last edited by Baarous#2145 on Dec 29, 2024, 10:19:46 PM

" Sixjoys owns 100% of GGG shares. There is no "GGG", 3333333 shares says otherwise. Sixjoys is a HK front for Tencent (via other chains, go look up the SUMO acquisition for details). Again: there is no "GGG". They are, by Corporate structure, employees of Tencent. ~ Fascinating who mis-uses the word "Conspiracy Theory", isn't it? |

" ya i believe you are correct. they went from 16.6% ownership to nothing now which is kinda weird how that news was hid under the bus through this entire poe2 hype phase "Path of Exile's engine is currently modern, lean and fast." - Chris Wilson, September 19th, 2019 "It looks like we broke something with 3.10.0. We don't know what it is yet." - Bex, March 16th, 2020 Last edited by girng#7675 on Dec 29, 2024, 10:29:54 PM

" I know a few things, and selling out your last 16.6% before a huge windfall ($45mm and counting) is either of two things: 1) Stupidity 2) Arm-bending / Kneecapping Who could say. That's $7.5mil (roughly) you just gave up, for free. (Or, virtually given the share price). ~ Weird. If my company was done in via a hostile take-over, I'd stick it out for that last $7.5mm payout. I guess GGG just works differently. Last edited by Nameless_One#4282 on Dec 29, 2024, 10:42:14 PM

" whats the excuse for you giving tencent free rent in your head>? Do not waste the remainder of thy life in thoughts about others

" Well, they own 100% of the game. So by playing it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts |

The game has issues yes but to go to the distance and call it a scam is a bit dramatic. I and the rest of the player base come across issues and design choices we don't agree with, but It is definitely an incredible Arpg at it's core. All we can do is be patient and optimistic.

" Sorry, I must be misunderstanding the gotcha you have here. Either that or you grossly misunderstand corporate governance. No one is contesting that GGG is 100% owned by tencent. Sixjoy is simply the VC subsidiary of tencent that focuses on video game investments, of course tencent corporate didn't make this investment themselves, this deal would be too small to ever come to their attention. Your statement that there is no such thing as GGG and they are "by Corporate structure" whatever tf you mean by that is absolute non-sense. GGG continues to have their own operating structure, and are a registered business with the appropriate authorities. Let's extend this statement to its logical conclusion, 1. There is no such thing as "google" employees, they all work for alphabet smartass 2. Facebook and instagram don't actually exist, they're employees of Meta. So nefarious. 3. Did you know that the olive garden, capital grille, and Longhorn steakhouse aren't real companies? The employees checks say Darden... Sorry for the snark if I'm just missing your point, but I'm genuinely baffled by what you're trying to relay. Moreover, to anyone confused about the sale generally, this is a very common practice for small to mid size companies. The only way to pay back your investors, and the employees who took stock options instead of higher pay packages, is to either get acquired or go public. GGG was NEVER going to go public, wayyyyy too small. In the end, they took a deal to make sure their investors, employees, and founders finally got the windfall they've been waiting 13 years for. " No, I'm good thanks " Many people are. " No, that's not what they do. **** " Again wrong. How do I know this? I've met some of them. " No, it isn't. I looked over the share deal. GGG doesn't have many thing we would consider an "autonomous entity" to enjoy. " Who list Sixjoys as the company with both Financial, Legal and Jurisprudential oversight. I snipped the rest of this. ZZZzz. Dude. When Cadbury is takeover By Mondelez, you can copy/paste the same trash. The chocolate still somehow turns out... to be worse. **** If you don't why Sixjoy is registered in HK rather than CN, you know nothing. Go look up the SUMO acquisition files (Tencent holds them as .pdfs on their websites if you're clever). Or know why GS or JPM can work there and not on the mainland. And so on. You'd know this if you worked in the arena. ~ Please. You're not the smartest bear in this room, by a long hard mile. Last edited by Nameless_One#4282 on Dec 29, 2024, 11:03:30 PM

" Ok, this clears things up, not sure why we are arguing. If your point is corporate takeovers often lead to an inferior product you'll get no debate from me. The original post is what I dissented to, that GGG engaged in some deliberate scheme to defraud tencent. Never claimed to be, or even want to be, the smartest person in the room. Also have no intention of being the most contentious. Like I said, legitimately did not understand the point you were making originally, appreciate the clarification. I'm gonna wish you a happy holiday, and hope you enjoy any time you do spend on the game. |
