Its disgusting that f cloak of flame better than 1100armour/evasion body armour against phys damage
I hate new worse def armour formula, why ggg so hate str/dex defs? Why es and mana now so op and ggg even didnt try to nerf it and upgrade life and armour, i played with 24k armour and 20k evasion witchhunter and died to much, gained shield and anyway now i'm dying cause of freaking weak def mechanics, 10k armour is nothing vs white big mob with tree on t15 without damage modes, i have 2.2k hp and he hit me for ~1300 dmg, and his afterdeath explosion almost oneshot me, Phys hits not even red of bosses with +2 boss difficulty one shot me, wtf with that armour? i wasted around 500+ ex on this shit with good armour and evasion stats, and its not enough. F disgusting.
There no option for me eve to go harder difficulty of mobs. without a doubt, i liked that elemental shield mitigated it well, and i liked how the cooldown didn't reset from very beginning when i got hit. This was true with poe1 armour formula as well. The difference in poe1 was that you had determination and could get molten shell and a lot more armour in general without giving up every dps node on the tree.

Likely the "fixing melee" was a long running inside joke in ggg and they didnt mean any of it. They held the carrot in front of us all and when they released ea they were all laughing about it.

Armor in poe 1 has been in a decent spot for a while, and is good at what it does now. In settler's I had a block character with 12k armor and picked up imbalanced guard (under rated) because with block there was never a time I needed more than 50% DR and it let me run a different aura.
I believe jonathan when he says the teams don't communicate because any poe2 dev could have seen this issue if they had even booted up path ONCE in the past 2 years. The armor and magic find blunders are evidence that the team has NO idea what they're doing and are canaries in the coal mine |

" I would because this statement is untrue. Two of the 3 founders are GONE. they left the company and are not coming back. Jonathan pretty much said he hates poe1 in interviews and doesn't play it. He also said the team for poe2 is not the same and has zero communication with the poe1 team for years. If we take these few statements it makes total sense why solved problems for poe are back in the sequel, when it should have a steady foundation to be built on. If the team knew what they were doing, we wouldn't have to have apologists saying "it's a new game!" defending issues that were solved and should not be there. |

Got 2 chars into cruel with evasion and evasion/es. Was very hard to get them into act2, i.e. to defeat the hyena-king. 3. char was my heavy-armor-warrior. Thought it would be easy with him, bc all they do is good old phys-dmg, right? Yeah...I ended up with dressing my warrior in evasion-gear completely and giving him a quarterstaff instead a shield in off-hand to make him continue in cruel. But probably that's just part of the Vision (tm) or simpler: GGG HATES MELEE! |

Overall agreed (long road ahead). Not giving up yet though lol. Personally, still trying to make melee work haha. Though in the back of my mind, things like learning PoE1 history...I'm not so sure of the prospects of the future for things to change for melee vs ranged. Not saying game-balance is easy. But overall I'm getting the sentiment that the community does not feel anything has changed on this front -- while some as to say it got to an even worse state (PoE1 vs PoE2). Kripp's recent video on armor seems to shed more light on one component of this matter, i.e. armor. Anyway, I know this thread's about shields lol. Reflecting a bit on PoE1 (though I never played it that much back then), I feel the main game loop design for melee really was to 1-shot the enemy before you get 1-shot, and never really had any/much middleground/Balance at all -- it works fine I guess, but limits build diversity/gameplay-style/choices/etc (thus, alienating a decent portion of playerbase, hence, limiting growth potential/sustainability/replayability/longevity).
Just a thought on the above, but perhaps maybe during development on PoE2, the game devs did some sort of "port" from PoE1 at its current state (maybe back in like way back ~2019 or something, as an example). Then from there, of course, PoE1 continued development/improvements/bug fixing etc from there on its own path, hence the "Balance" in PoE1 today has improved overall. Though, for PoE2, the gamedev from then til now was less focused on those type of optimizations, rather, more focused on actual new content (WASD, gems, campaign, soul-like combat, etc) -- so what was gained in PoE1 was essentially lost from PoE2 (with more additional quirks, bugs, Balance issues, etc -- including the limited crafting woes, etc etc etc). And now, perhaps trying to "merge" what was gained in PoE1 to PoE2 is obviously not that simple as now it's like many diffs between both games (over last ~4-5+ years?). Hence, all the community posts/YT videos about "1 step forward, 2 steps back" kinda thing.
