Uniques are worthless (petition)
Honestly, 99% uniques in the game are absolutely garbage. Why not just delete them?
They look like a filler and lose to blue items of a level 20-30, yet they mostly drop on end game mapping, clogging up the floor. Make a button to turn off shitty uniques drop? In settings window? Last bumped on Dec 26, 2024, 8:32:47 PM

Most of them have *very* specific uses, but I agree, the absolute most of them are just utter trash that was thrown together randomly while high on muffins.

I have no idea why GGG can't seem to ever get this item type right. They should have just reworked uniques into a different system then if we'll end up with 99% useless ones again. They're especially worse in this game because life on gear is so much valuable cus no %life on tree, so wearing a unique is already a disadvantage if it has no flat life or other defensive stat to make up for that lost roll of possibly like 100+ life.
They tried something interesting with the Bestiary uniques that acted like "sets" and had those cool auras on them, they could have maybe tried set items in this game. Just an idea I'm throwing out there, since they seem to be so focused on copying aesthetics from D2 like the first 3 acts,wells,Hooded One,gambling for items etc. |

I never understood in POE1 the amount of useless uniques and why they never seem to make much attempt to rework them, and now we already seem to be seeing exactly the same trend? Some had their moments as well at certain points of history in the game but then also end up collecting dust, why aren't they constantly tweaking them to try to maintain some relevance? There always seemed to be some fear of making stuff too overpowered, adding ridiculous drawbacks, rather than just allowing something to be powerful and adjusting the rarity instead. |

I fired up Grim Dawn, made in 2016, (it just had a minor content patch after all these years) and the difference is startling: *Huge pool vrs tiny pool (I have literally got 3-4 of each PoE2 unique barring the ultra-rares in only week 3 of EA) *Sets with set bonuses at stages (2, 4, 6 or 3, 6) *Multiple targeted skill interactions *Every class has multiple different play styles catered to with specific types *Empowered versions drop at lvl breaks so that a player can "revisit" a lower level legendary at a comparable power curve *Drop rates from bosses / mini bosses is decent There's more, but in 2024, PoE2's system not only feels a lot weaker than than it did in 2012 but positively outdated and lazy. Here is what PoE2's Uniques do that GD's do not: *A tiny fraction break meta mechanics in a way that both forces all players to use them but also renders every other choice in that slot worthless. Yes, we're talking ES<>Mana<>HP switching to get "hidden" bonuses. I literally cannot understand who green lit the current state of Uniques and thought it was any good at all. It's not: it is objectively bad by 2012 standards and comically inept and disfunctional in 2024. p.s. Gem lvls get locked to map iLevel drop level. Most PoE 1 uniques were garbage or nerfed to garbage. A decade later they tried to start fixing them, but it looks like they decided to repeat history with PoE 2. They really learned very little from the past decade.
