Finding a rare feels better than buying at a vendor
" I guess it brings me back to the main point. Would you rather have a rare upgrade dropped or bought from a vendor? Also, I’m not saying vendors can be useless, there purpose might be better implemented into the crafting area. I personally think it feels a lot better getting a good rare drop, kind of like a reward for my efforts. This is just me personally and wanted to know how others felt. The amount of money we have can be controlled by other means. Now it might be unpopular but if money starts to become an over abundance then GGG could always implement…..repair costs? " The complaint is really a matter of what I find to be a better use of loot. I think most people would agree that finding loot through killing mobs, whether they be named or otherwise feels more rewarding than buying a rare from a vendor. |

I agree finding loot through killing mobs feels better, but it's also good that the vendors are there as a crutch, or sort of pity system (they're also RNG though, so it's not really thaaaaat different).
Regarding the vendors, I'm not there yet, but I suspect that in endgame you might reach a point where you stop leveling (you keep dying...). I think it would be nice at least when xp penalties start kicking-in to have them refresh more frequently. Don't ask me how, but it shouldn't be abusable, and should serve as a crutch (if you're expecting gear upgrade from a vendor in endgame, you gear mus be really scuffed though, but that's why they're there :D) Last edited by Maldosam#3663 on Dec 23, 2024, 6:03:54 PM

" If crafting could be done correctly I think the vendors would be suited better for a role in a system like that. But I don’t really see how it could work unless they made it so whites don’t drop from mobs rather you would have to buy them from vendors. |

To me finding a "rare" [or even seeing one at a vendor] doesn't really move the needle for me outside of the early acts.
Once I've leveraged the trade site for gearing the odds that anything found on the ground would be better [or even competitive with some Exalt slams] is so rare that I wonder why I even bother checking. If I get enough funds for the next round of upgrades I doubt I'd bother picking up a "regular" rare off the ground at all -- why waste the time. While they don't seem useful to me at all I do get excited when I see a unique / legendary drop though. Last edited by KingAlamar#4071 on Dec 23, 2024, 7:25:50 PM

I'm personally ok with vendors but certainly not with gambling. Now instead of monsters dropping random gear some of which we could use, monsters drop gold which we can buy random gear with. Whoever thought that was an upgrade must be fired on the spot for being a gambling addict.

" There's some validity to your point, but two pushbacks: 1) Gold isn't only for vendors, and it has to be said it's introduction in poe1 Settlers for respeccing and currency trading improved QoL 2) While I agree you don't want to turn the game into a casino, it's established that adding some randomness to rewards actually... feels good :) That's why there are gambling addicts in the first place. So there's a balance to find. May be the gambling vendor should go ? Or may be they're the ultimate "crutch"? When the normal vendors no longer update, you're stuck in SSF but you have a pile of gold and you weapon is 30 lvls behind, you just go for a hail Mary ? I don't know. I guess if you don't like don't use it (I know I don't for the moment). |
