Permanent Quest Rewards are a bad Game Design
Family member was playing with me and chose a vial not for her class. At that point mind as well start over since a permanent character loss. Not cool and not the way to bring new players in. Punishing new players for not knowing enough early on is spiteful game design with malicious intent. Now my family member has quit and is upset with the time wasted and does not want to start over.
The vast majority of posters agree with my statement, a few of you have the typical autist responses about how it couldn't be bad game mechanics that caused her to quit, it must have been something else. The arrogance of the hard core POE No-Lifers doesn't surprise me. Anyone who wants to spin it into some other underlying personal issues because they're creepy trolls are just derailing the thread because they live, eat, and shit path of exile. You mind as well be saying "I'm lonely and this game is all I have, don't insult it or I'll insult you back." This isn't a mechanic new to video games, I agree it can be punishing but we all have google at our fingertips (and these forums) it sucks the wrong reward was chosen, but I genuinely (not trying to be a dick here) think that spending an extra 60 seconds thinking about what you're selecting would resolve this. Or at least end up with you picking something that's not completely useless for your build or class.

Game design should not rely on Google.
All such choices should be reversible, either by a non-trivial game means, or buy rare-ish currency, quest, whatever. |

It would be nice if you could redo the quest to choose again. The bandits in PoE at least let you swap to the other choices with a bit of work.

" Yeah POE2 wants to tote it's new game as casual friendly, but expects people to understand build concepts by level 27. Developers are really spiteful in their design and it shows here why POE1 was not a well known game amongst most gamers that aren't on the spectrum. This is an absolutely silly reason to quit. Maybe the game just wasn't for her and she picked an arbitrary reason to quit that you would latch on to. It's the only one of it's kind i think and it is a small bonus. like .75 of a single notable in value? and none are completely worthless. Make it changeable or not it won't bring this player back to the game. she just wasn't interested.
It's not spite or malice. It may simply be oversight because again none of them are useless. Stun threshold ailment threshold and what else? They probably just thought of it as a nice bonus. People need to calm down. |

Sounds to me that you made her quit by making her feel bad for choosing to play she wanted to play.

" she wasn't really enjoying the game to start and permanent decisions that effect end game was the last straw. Sounds to me like you're a lonely gamer who's never understood how other people might feel about games. Hope you find yourself a nice mate one day, but going around making assumptions will guarantee this game is the only thing you'll ever love. You're a shining example of why most people hate the League of Legends and Path of Exile communities. You're not here to play a game, you're here to avoid your reality and put others down because it feeds your false superiority complex. Last edited by joevw007#4335 on Dec 19, 2024, 1:03:48 PM

" Yes you are correct she already had issues with the game prior to this, but once I told her you can't choose again and that's permanent, I suggested starting a new character and that didn't sound fun so she stopped playing. Im not far off in guessing that people who play this game and don't understand the choices they are making, might last a bit longer in gameplay but once realizing they are permanently behind due to an uniformed decision forced upon them by the game, but will eventually quit as this isn't the only instance of developers permanently punishing new players for lack of knowledge. If this game is for hard-core POE1 players only, then I'm sure the answer is just "git gud" or "start again," but for some that's just going to cause them to walk away. If that's what the development team intended so be it, but I think from a business standpoint it's a silly idea to make games based on changing your build for the meta and new seasons, to have permanent account buffs. I quit playing as well. This community is toxic and the Developers seem to be catering to them which is fine, it's similar to League of Legends when it comes to player base being a type of gamer that is not welcome in most other gaming lobbies.
