I don't like Geanor, this boss fight is bullshit, not fun
The problem is that OP didn't say what his build is so no one can offer any specific help. We can only offer general tips or "git gud". I have one char at early maps bank rolling respecs.
Did this as a melee minion witch with chaos damage. Won after altering my strategy to utilize bone cage during invincible phase after around 10 tries. Then tried brute forced it with a poison ranger. Pure agony, but beat it after 13 or so tries. Just did the fight as a warrior bulking up in regen and armor and easily won. For whatever reason lots of fight mechanics doesn't happen when you melee him. He focused on normal sword swings than the more dangerous special attacks. |

For me it's one of the coolest bosses... all act bosses are really cool imho.
Sure it's the first actually hard boss of the game and if you are undergeared it's quite hard. However if you are uber-geared that's not the issue. Check the skills you are using, are you standing still a lot? do you have channelling or build up times? Bosses requires you to be mobile and ready to roll. You likely have free skill slots so you can just add some fast skills for bosses. Also, do you have a glass cannon build? Some defences will help (Due to how additive damage works, picking all those +10% damage doesn't really make a huge difference). You say potions run out, that happened to me too, are you casting skills above your level and running out of mana too soon ? Drop those +1 skill items in the early game. Are you running out of hp ? Then either your pots need to be improved or you are getting hit too much. Dodge the sword attacks, those are telegraphed and deal tons of damage. Ideally you should never be hit by those, and that includes the wide arc attack after the charge. In the wolf mist part you can dodge him by staying out of the center and/or rolling on a timer (he seems to jump every fixed amounts of time to me), also have a quick aoe to clear the adds or keep them in check at least. In phase 2 be very aware of the ice vertical beams, they deal damage + CC and can chain-kill you, just focus on avoiding during that skill. When at about 30% hp the vertical pillars will become faster, much more erratic and much more damaging, you have to focus on avoiding them WHILE burning him. That's the hard part imho, you can either spec on low-health damage or be ready to stun and burn. Overall use skills that stun him, if you can stun 3-4 times you will have a much much easier fight. Later Act bosses are infinitely worse than Geonor the Putrid Wolf. Take your time and learn the mechanics...
otherwise you are in for a very bad time. |

Taking care of resistances on gear makes this fight very comfortable.
At later levels you do so much damage that lots of the bosses dont even get time to show of all their special moves. The cruel difficulty was much easier then the normal difficulty because of the huge damage you do when you advance. Last edited by Bitslappa#8832 on Dec 20, 2024, 2:22:05 PM

I’m sure it’s been said in 5 pages but:
- pretty much all attacks are perfectly telegraphed: with audio (and chat text for accessibility) - the fact you got 1-shot means your survivability is bad, take 1 ring with max cold red and you’ll be fine - there’s a charm that prevents being frozen. Unfortunate if you don’t find it, perhaps should be guaranteed shop item I do agree that the number of wolves in the mist phase is a little crazy if you can’t kill them fast enough, but you can kite them and they’ll despawn. |
