Why did you turn PoE 2 into Ruthless 2.0?
|
Did I miss the part where Ruthless mode was considered a beloved feature? My impression was that it was widely disliked, yet you’ve built Path of Exile 2 around it. I’m genuinely trying to understand how one of the most criticized modes you’ve introduced became the foundation for what could have—and should have—been an incredible sequel.
By removing movement skills, gutting trigger mechanics, eliminating crafting, and tying skills to weapons (severely restricting build creativity and freedom—the hallmark of Path of Exile), you’ve buried the game’s strengths under the weight of Ruthless mode mechanics. It’s disheartening that this was seen as the only path to increasing difficulty. If Ruthless is being imposed as the default experience, it’s time to include the opposite: a mode where these restrictive mechanics are removed and fun is prioritized. Bring back movement skills, untie skills from weapons, and restore the openness that made Path of Exile stand out. I’d wager that such a mode would be far more popular than this “Ruthless 2.0” approach. Last bumped on Dec 12, 2024, 11:27:52 PM

" Sad part is, its not even difficult, its difficult to play because we have no options of fun builds, mathematically, the scaling on all the gems damage is/are ABYSMAL, very low and un fun. Got gear from act 1-2-3 that took me to 88 with no issues. Its not a skill issue, its a lack of diversity issue, the thing the games known for. Crafting? You mean dropping random orbs and getting random results? thats not crafting thats gambling. Crafting would insinuate some brainpower was used. |

" Even the uniques have sad properties, its like they were afraid to take ANY risk to make the player powerful, I didnt want to pay for a free game to be good in 4 years. Skill tree is terrible, its like one wheel per element and 100x in travel nodes to get there, everything they have done has broken this game and basically they are sitting back with an extra 50m--1b from the sales happy like fat pigs Theres zero build diversity, you have 1-3 viable gems and basically need to use all of them because the scaling on them is atrocious, even with +5/6/7 to levels. |

I have the same feeling. This is Ruthless
Its not even hard, its just boring, slow and unfun to play. I feel Uber Maven harder than any of those bosses. I hope devs come with a clear comunication about the direciton that this game will follow. If the goes in this path i will not play it and stay in PoE1. |

" Yeah Kripparrian himself even put out a video on Youtube titled POE2 IS RUTHLESS!!!, during that he said Ruthless mode in PoE 1 was pre alpha testing. He loves and I think that is about all he played was Ruthless mode since it became a thing, so if he is calling it that, he would know more than anyone else. |

krip is still living off hearthstone era money.

um, probably because ruthless mode was specifically to have a test environment for future development aka for PoE 2?
guess you missed that part when the description of ruthless was stated "why did you guys develop the next game based on the late added system that was used for future development?" also if you think damage scaling is low you need to learn to craft weapons, i'm on cruel campaign and virtually insta-gibbing bosses in like 5 to 10 seconds - it's why i'm even here and saw this post; i was going to make a post saying is it just me or are we way overtuned in cruel+ when we've had time to get good drops and/or craft good gear also i'd personally rather a potential bit of blandness, than accidentally going the other way and destroying the core point of this second version being a good, slow paced, challenging souls-like kinda game, instead having crazy and exciting looking unbalanced options that just turns it back into casual mainstream screen clearing triple-A trash (like it's currently feeling on cruel with again 5 to 10 second boss instagib) Last edited by Whiskiz#4713 on Dec 12, 2024, 1:08:33 AM

" Where did damage scaling even come into this discussion? The focus here was on what made Ruthless a poorly received mode—things like the lack of build freedom we had before and other restrictive mechanics. Do you genuinely think Ruthless was well-liked? You’re clearly out of touch if you believe that. When patch notes included Ruthless changes, nobody even cared to read them because the mode was so unpopular. If you think there wouldn’t be more players in a mode where all the defining features that made Path of Exile 1 great carried over to PoE 2, then I’d love to know what you’re smoking. |

and if you're not a fan of ruthless/PoE 2, it's exactly why they're keeping PoE 1 and will continue to develop it - you already have that option there Last edited by Whiskiz#4713 on Dec 12, 2024, 1:26:21 AM
