Trials are terrible

"
Don't think I like the honor system.

I don't like that honor essentially supercedes your HP in determining whether you fail the trial. It turns the game into something different and negates certain parts of the game.

For example, a thorns build someone mentioned. What about a tank build. Or a build based on high healing?

The trials are universally required by all classes and all builds, yet the requirement of avoiding damage contradicts the core concept of many builds.

I feel like this is not it. This honor system doesn't belong to this genre of games. At least not as the gating mechanism of a core system. It could be provided as a side activity for people who likes that kind of gameplay, but not something forced on absolutely every single player.

It's like gating a raid boss behind a long platforming puzzle in an MMO. Or like gating a level cap unlock in an RPG game behind a rythm game where you can't miss 10% of the beat.

If honor was just used to determine extra rewards, I think this would have been a much more fun activity.

Of course, all this is moot if the original intent was to weed out the bad players and only allow the more skilled action game players to ascend, to create two tiers of players, in which case I might be glad I found it in early access instead of after launch.

Well said! +1
I like the honour system.

The core game of POE 2 is basically teaching you the same thing youll be doing in sekhemas. So its most likely not gonna change.

Second sekhemas run and I didnt even reach half after the boss, didnt feel like dodging and even tanked a few hits
Other than the the different objectives of rooms, there is nothing better about trials over the labyrinth, and even that was a contentious subject. Afflictions are poorly balanced in that the effects are often so crippling, your choices to avoid them are limited or impossible, and far more often than not, you will be stuck with them for the whole run. With more paths to choose from, better balance between afflictions, and more opportunities to remove them, they would be more reasonable. Or just make them only last 1 or 2 rooms. They might not even be worth complaining about too much without the honor mechanic though. Honor is a terrible idea to even begin with and I don't think there's any salvaging it. "Oh lets make it so you can lose, without actually dying, and also, fuck melee classes and especially a few builds in particular". Even if you tuned the loss down because it's way too high, it still leaves you with the fact its shooting yourself in the foot trying to balance it around different builds, and different enemy types and attacks. So many monsters are absolutely brutal and just shoot aoe's or raging spirits everywhere or appear under you very quickly almost without warning. With these new terrible challenges to contend with you might think well, at least the rewards must be greater at least? No, they're worse.

They've managed to make something universally despised and people barely want to suffer through them for ascendancy points, let alone choose it as something to run for loot.

yeah the game does a thorough job of teaching you to use ranged skills or suffer
Some things just never change.

Yea I mean thats true if you just dont know how to build a melee character.
Yeah - these are not fun. Honestly, I should get ascendancy points defeating bosses in each act. For the first ascendancy, I took my melee character back to it 10+ levels later. For the second ascendancy, I tried the same - no good. The multiple stacking of character debuffs and monster buffs is annoying. Combined with the fact of 40 monsters stacked on top of me with big AOE attacks -- it just says to me, don't attempt this until you're level 60 or something.

It feels like this should be at the endgame, not introduced with each act, especially when there is a lack of gear, resists, and resources to create survivability--but that doesn't help when a debuff is to take 50% more damage, lol.

Maybe these are better with ranged but as a melee character, I'll attempt again 20 levels from now.

2. The Honor system absolutely punishes melee classes. To be expected not to take "too much" damage as a melee class is ridiculous. Either give us more mechanics (travel skills) or better honor restoring system or just remove Honor entirely.

It's funny cuz it feels like its super obvious that the honor system is incredible bad for melee classes, it makes me wonder if they really did not see this coming, bcs it reinforces the idea of only having 1 right way to play the game, which for warrior would be using that 1 attack from distance and that's it, if you want to make a thorns build for example you literally can't complete the trial

I came to the forums to post all of these griefs. I'm glad you guys are on top of it. I switched from Merc to Ranger to Warrior and finally felt like it was a good fit for me. I'm now attempting the first Trials for the 4th time and I'm honestly at a loss.

My best attempt was Room 8 at a boss with massive unavoidable AoE if I was going to do any sort of damage to him. I had plenty of honor to start the fight but ended up just getting my honor chipped away.

The ridiculous part is, I made my character to be able to survive and take hits. And this honor system just negates my entire character.

So much for all the awesome build choices and customization!
Trials of Chaos is terrible, the debuffs are too punishing and as usual punishes melee more than ranged.

These really soured the game for me, maybe I'll come back when I'm lvl 60.
honor is stupid, Like I've got 9k es and full chaos resist I shouldn't need to have armor and full ele resist as well to beat something at lvl 60 when I'm 80 something.

I cannot get past the second phase of trial of chaos. Might be me. This is the first time in the game where I thought something was too hard in the game. Leading up to the trials I've never had 30 enemies swarm me all at once. But in the trial of chaos I literally get swarmed by 30 people.

The first trial wasn't that bad just slightly aggravating.

I'm going to keep trying though I'll get it eventually.

For me the third wave [of 4] got me. Had more guys just spawning in close to me and also putting a degen at my feet. I wouldn't mind more creatures coming down the elevator but to be "summoned" close to me feels like a bad mechanic.

Unfortunately I don't have great "instant, fast, and powerful" AoE clear so eventually that put too much pressure on me :(

I wish there was a WP close to Chimera so if I failed I could easily farm up another key. If we suspect "farm abuse" then I'd say don't let Chimera spawn until you've lost a trial of chaos [or similar]
