Evasion Characters Need More for Boss Fights
Evasion currently has little function in boss fights, an issue that energy shield and armour characters don't currently face. I'm really only struggling in boss fights, not against regular monsters so I don't really have anything to invest in.
My suggestion is that Wind dancer is changed from providing evasion rating, to reduced damage taken from hits. Potentially based on a percent of current evasion rating? Last bumped on Dec 14, 2024, 8:36:20 PM

What's your class and build and stats look like?? Do you have the points to invest into any damage mitigation in your ascension, gear, passive tree, etc??
That's the one thing that I don't currently care for about evasion and other avoidance layers. They work great until you take the wrong hit [unavoidable for example] I'm on the other side of the tree and I'm still investing into mitigation on the tree, in gear, and would do so on skill & support gems if I had much that seemed to help :) Any way you can turn your evasion [avoidance] into armour and would that wreck the rest of your build?? |

Evasion in combination with armor definitely works. On bosses too. Once you start playing around with Evasion giving Armor then Wind Dancer giving evasion then add some Blind on top many boss attacks simply whiff. Sometimes I don't feel like dodging so I eat the boss' physical hits head on. Many of them do miss me.

I'm playing Pathfinder, so I don't have any access to effective HP from my ascendancy. The only defensive skills are better flasks and they don't help with max hit anymore.
I haven't considered evasion to armour conversion, I'm assuming that's in the mercenary section of the tree? Not really sure if the small amount of armour I get from that's going to help with the large hits I'm taking. I'll definitely check it out, but I have a feeling it's really only going to help while clearing I'm using blind on wind dancer currently, it helped a lot while clearing but didn't notice it help much in bosses. In PoE 1, I still felt relatively tanky against large hits thanks to Wind Dancer giving less damage taken from hits if you hadn't been hit recently. It honestly felt like the only good thing pure evasion had going for it. |

I should also mention that it's really only physical slams/aoe I'm struggling with. Elemental slams/aoe barely phase me because I spent so long farming items to try and stat-check the bosses I was struggling with.

" Can't find anything on the skill tree planner I'm using about evasion to armour conversion, the only one I can find is Iron Reflexes. At that point, why even bother have evasion rating? |

Nevermind, I found the notable passive. Though it's 14 points away from my path currently, so I don't know how point effective it's going to be. There are shock nodes over there that could be useful, so I guess it won't be a complete waste.

There was a keystone or something in Path of Exile 1 that converted a portion of damage from hits into damage over time. I kind of think something like that is necessary for evasion builds because holy shit do you get creamed by big hits otherwise.

" You mean Petrified Blood? It was a reservation gem, I guess it could fit in 2. The life reservation part of it would probably have to be changed. |

Evasion is definitely does not work on bosses atm. Moreover, hit damage from them is overtuned. I created a ranger and leveled it to 22lv. I literally cannot kill bosses in act2. Sorc had a twice as much effective HP from energy shield and it was not so obvious. However, if you have no ES and no armor, you just die from EVERY hit, every hit from any boss is a oneshot.
Evasion system need a rework so it would work as defensive stat. Like implementing glancing blows when you can partially evade attack and receive lowered damage. Or some similar mechanic. The damage ATM is insane. |
