WASD feels like going back 30 years
I think the WASD addition to Poe2 is very intuitive and great. I feel that perhaps the OP is not utilizing it correctly based on his explanation of his usage in WoW
I believe in WoW you’d also want to press and hold W and a strafe button at the same time while navigating the turn with your mouse in order to have precise movement. If you didn’t do that and you were holding down only W and turning with the mouse, you’d have extra movement or delayed reaction to directional changes and difficulty repositioning for mobs quickly. For example if I wanted to maneuver around a mob torwards the right while still keeping my character facing it in WoW, I’d have to utilize the W and D keys while pressing and holding down the right mouse button while moving my mouse to the left. Only difference in Poe2 is that you don’t need to hold down the right mouse button and you can freely position the mouse in the direction you want to face and utilize W, or W+D or W+A to move. Same for S. Last edited by Orionstar#4752 on Dec 9, 2024, 9:05:58 AM

" Look I don't know your age, but this was the norm 30 years ago and we evolved from it. I don't understand why this is coming back. " I literally gave you two big examples of intuitive games using WASD. and YES there are infinitely more if you get out of PoE chamber... You see a game with top down/iso view. WASD is instantly assumed to be based on screen. W = UP. there's literally nothing weird here. but again, options are always good so if they can implement whatever you think is a better use for it, good! There's literally nothing old about the way it plays. in fact the vast majority seems to be happy about it. I certainly am. Last edited by khuzvhan#0406 on Dec 9, 2024, 9:17:09 AM

Clunky game play. The responsiveness of the controls is easily the worst I've ever seen in an ARPG. It's like moving in a swimming pool. Every movement is labored, delayed, and heavily unresponsive. The game play feels like its from a much older game. If you need a example of how great WASD can feel in a game just play D4 with it for 10min. For all the bad stuff I can say about D4 (and there is a lot of bad) the one thing it does right is the movement and feeling of your character. I know this is EA so I'm hoping the devs can improve the clunky and unresponsive movement feeling the characters have.

Just bumping this in the hopes the devs see it.

dude, you have to have it in this game, most of my time is spent running the OPPOSITE way im casting ( and you can cast and move at the same time with most skills)

Me not happy with actual WASD...I play since 40 years at least and i think poe2 need more flexibility and option for control. We are all different and obviously there is not only 1 Way.

It was confusing for me when I first tried it because W and S cause the character to move up and down the screen. Other games I've played used W to move forward in the direction your character is facing. So, I went back to point and click with the mouse even though many were saying that WASD was actually better.
The problem with click moving was that when backing away from the target I was also turning my back on the target...not good. So, I decided that the only way to get comfortable with WASD was to practice until I got more comfortable with it. So, I picked and easy area with lots of mobs and spent some time hitting the area over and over until I began to see that WASD is indeed the better way to go. I just need to practice until the hand-eye coordination come together so that the movement becomes more fluid even when facing one of the challenging boss fights. |
