WASD feels like going back 30 years

We used to play Fifa then. One guy got the only gamepad, the other had to use keyboard - it was a massive uphill battle everytime.

Movement in PoE2 feels like on rails, we have 8 directions vs infinite in PoE1. My fingers get mixed up all the time, I died more often to that than to the bosses themselves.

I wonder if any modern game actually uses WASD movement ON A KEYBOARD? To me, this is a pure gamepad feature for that precise, convenient mini-joystick. I have played WoW for many years with WASD, but the point is: No one uses A, S or D. You only hold down W and steer with the mouse. The mouse is our (PC gamers) tool of precision, doing its job with keyboard feels like using my feet.

I have tried mouse movement, but for one it's also on rails limited by the 8 directions and for another as a Ranger I can't give up the obvious enhancement of independent moving/aiming. Which brings me to the question: how on earth are you going to balance melee if ranged are getting another massive inherent advantage?

Sorry for the rant, but among all the other criticisms I see, I fail to see this adressed. Precise movement is paramount in PoE and we got this Pacman shit ;(

I must say I would love to have a RELATIVE WASD... that means W move towards the mouse.. S away from it, etc.. Woudl be a vey nice alternative.

Afaik it's an option you can turn off if you don't like how it feels.

The idea of relative input that the above person mentioned would be an interesting idea to try out but I feel it might be too prone to causing confusion.

Seems like you haven't played enough Fifa on the keyboard then, eh?

Excuse me, what the fuck are you talking about? A S D is "not used"? Do you know what "STRAFE" is? Have you played any FPS in your life?
We "the PC gamers" while you seem to be surprised by WASD movement. lmao.

It is precise enough for what it needs to be. You don't need pixel perfect precision here. You being surprised by usage of A S D keys in a PC game may be the issue here, not the game.
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

WASD feels great actually, it is your choice not to use WASD, it is optional.

The fuck?

While using "S/Back" in WoW was and I guess is outright bad due to walking backwards being slower, you for damn sure use A and D to strafe... What exactly is your problem?
Also... Where have you found the need for super precise movement that would be possible with an analog stick in this game?

In general you seem to misunderstand:
WoW controls are "forward, backwards, strafe left, strafe right". PoE controls are "Up, down, left, right".

+ 1 to this, even just as an option for the WASD controls.

In most WASD control schemes, W is "forward" not "up," S is "backstep" not "down," and A & D strafe to the character's left and right, not the screen's. Plenty of other people are loving it, but I tried PoE2's WASD scheme and it felt retrograde to me, too; I reverted to click-to-move pretty quickly.
Stay sane, exiles!

This is not an FPS. It's an isometric game.
The position of your mouse has nothing to do with your movement.

What your suggesting is a kin to pressing down on an analog stick making you move backwards. Thats not how isometric/top down games work.

WASD is perfect the way it is. many recent huge successes operates exactly like this, examples Hades or Vampire Survivors.

The way it is is the intuitive way but I'll never be against any sort of extra options for such a thing so ofc any proper suggestion is valid if it gets enough support

but calling it dated or something? that's on you and your lack of recent gaming experience smh.

Why would I? Do you drive with your feet? Do you throw bricks at your TV until the volume goes up?

Getting used to something bad doesn't make it good.

Yes, Strafe occasionaly, I had those on QE, but whatever. I mean, you never walked left, right or back. You walked forward and turned via mouse.

Look I don't know your age, but this was the norm 30 years ago and we evolved from it. I don't understand why this is coming back.

Have you played PoE 1 recently or another arpg? You can instantly feel the higher precision.
