But who is this game for?

It's not for me. I've seen a lot of D4 refugees who have clearly never played PoE 1 that seem to love it, so I think that was probably the intended audience.

Read most of the posts here. There are a ton of people that are not happy with the game.

yeah, because the forum mostly contains poe 1 players, and poe 2 isn't made for poe 1 players.

What are you talking about?? EVERYONE playing is a PoE1 player.

that's wrong, this game has a lot more players than poe 1 has, but the people crying here are all poe 1 players

If its not for poe 1 players their main fans who pay moeny to them who is it for?

It is true. In the last 20 years no game company managed to get any hard core game as an online service established. Tehre are simply not enough players that play and spend regularly to cover the development and server cost. Its a huge difference developing a souls single player game and having one that runs on an online server.

At the end of the day you get 2 problems:

1.) You need to get your investment back and cover the running cost.
2.) You have to keep your reputation.

The beta wil change in the upcomming months and adress the issues. You might get a mode that resembles the current state but the game will not stay like this.

Elden Ring doesn't exist. Eve Online doesn't exist. Albion Online doesn't exist. WoW HC doesn't exist. Despite me not wanting to credit it as I think there are a huge number of problems with it, Tarkov is also very very financially successful. I don't think you are interested in actual hardcore games, or else you would probably know about all of the hardcore, permadeath, permaloot, PvP, mechanically intensive, deep live service games out there.

Elden Ring is not an online service running high capacity servers that cost money regularly, its essentially a single player game as a one time purchase.

EVE online is a gigantig economy simulator with a PvP aspect, its also one of the only space games in existance. It has nothing to do with hard core its just an MMO. They also struggeling a bit btw.

For Albion i cant say much.

Tarkov i only know by name but from what i gather its just a shooter with minimal UI, so more like ARMA?

So the only game that even comes remotely close would be souls like and none of them are online services as far as i know (correct me if iam wrong).

The problem with PoE2 is simple, getting bosses spamming one hit mechanics doesnt automatically make a good game and certainly gets you into trouble if you need to make 1m+ a month for maintenance. Money doesnt grow on trees thats why many big companies work by statistics in their choices. Just wait a couple of weeks and well see what will happen. I find it likely that we will get some sort of update beginning next week to lay down how to move forward, but first lets get the bugs fixed.

Elden Ring has very high concurrency. The playerbase has obviously declined from peak numbers since it's rather old now, but it is not a singleplayer/coop game.

Eve is not struggling, and is definitely hard core in terms of player experience and commitment.

Also I keep, keep seeing this business about 1shot mechanics. I have not seen a single 1shot mechanic thus far, and I am playing a ranger. As in, low strength, evasion build. What do people think is a 1shot? I'm hanging around with 2/3rds HP and something kills me in 1 hit? That's not a 1shot mechanic.

Also, this 1M a month number is certainly pulled out of your ass. I promise you GGG pays maybe one quarter that for their cloud services and fees for running their backend.
