I like the new system of "1-second plus travel time" except that I think 1 second is a bit too short. Most packs of enemies take me and my girlfriend at least 5 seconds to kill, and I would much rather wait until between packs to pick up my loot. And for those wondering why I wouldn't just want free-for-all loot if I play with someone I completely trust: When very rare orbs drop, it is nice to have a built-in "coin-toss" to avoid stopping often to discuss who should grab certain drops, and avoids having one player feel "cheated" if they are generous more often than the other party members.
It seems like the player base is STRONGLY divided on how loot allocation should be done, so it makes sense to offer a few different options. Offer the Party Leader approx. 4 options for "loot assignment": <> Free-For-All <> Temporarily Assigned - 2 seconds (plus travel time) <> Temporarily Assigned - 6 seconds (plus travel time) <> Permanently Assigned (but NOT invisible to the other party members, in-case someone leaves behind a great item) Last edited by Axebane#6055 on Jun 27, 2012, 1:18:15 AM

Its insane not to have own loot, or at least loot options so you can select it if you want it.
But if they want no one playing in public games except melee characters who are always right next to the loot anyways. The entire concept of ffa loot is damaging to game play. It makes people do things they would never normally do. After playing D3 and seeing how nice it is, no rushing, no ninjas, no bitching, no whining, and you can still share loot with friends just fine. |

I have to admit, every day that I play, I lean a little bit more towards instanced loot. I find it harder and harder to group with people and expect them to actually split loot.
Just the other day I was in a group and we were doing great, people were only picking up the yellows that dropped with their names on them. Then, suddenly, a regal dropped... I was someone that was vehemently against instanced loot when it was first suggested, but now I don't think I would really mind it, and it would actually get me to group with people more often. Peoples generosity/sportsmanship will be always be relative to how much they want the drop.

If you absolutely must have evenly distributed loot, then the answer is simple...
Play with friends you know and trust. Any group not composed of trustworthy friends is just a handful of people with a common goal, [levels and loot]. One shouldn't feel entitled to anything in that type of group. Also, getting loot with ranged classes is not difficult by any stretch of the imagination. Simply gauge when the enemy will die and close the gap accordingly. Anyway this is discussed heavily in the Beta Manifesto Forum here IGN: Cadmus / Valgar

"This is not a solution. It's admitting that the FFA loot system is a negative feedback loop. FFA: The looting choice of Hardcore-Hero Manly-Men Griefers! Yo!

"This. "And this, too. FFA loot relies on people to not be... people. What happens when a group of 6 are killing a boss, each doing a fair share of the damage, and taking a fair share of the damage, and an Exalted drops? I think it's a nice idea to have a loot system like some people mentioned but only on general league. Since most casual players play there, and it's easier for loot hunters to work in. Hardcore and survival should keep it the way it is now, since it will add to the chalenge. After all in this modes you are given a choice. Whats more important, the survival of the party at the chance to loose loot or chance to get the loot at the risk of death. Which forces players to decide which is more benefitial.

I think that in friends list parties, there shouldn't be any loot reservation, also the way it works now is pretty cool. But in public games, I'd probably enjoy the gameplay a bit more if I didn't have to think about ninjas waiting for my reservation to expire.
Exiled by choice.
