Meta Bullshit

no matter what game, multiplayer or singleplayer, competitive or casual, there is always a meta, poe just so happens that you can play "offmeta" builds and still beat the game, its just harder to gear or more expensive or or or, meta builds in poe generaly talk about leaguestarters that cost nothing and perform exceptionaly well, while offmeta builds work just fine, they usualy suck at leveling or require alot more investment than a meta build for the same power, usualy offmeta builds have the added effect that they scale alot better with more investment later on, a good example was frostblades long before melee rework or trickster rework (frostblades zerker destroyed once you got the good gear)

i think the proper argument should be about not NEEDING to be hyper efficient.

You don't, players have been conditioned to believing this via "comparison is the death of happiness" but its never been true.

PoE1 is pretty diverse if you let go of the div/hr construct players seem to wrap themselves in - yes you require some mechanics to do the top content but that is by design, the design is somewhat circumvented when you bypass it with gear/build.

All it takes is accepting that if you want to dual wield bows while riding a pogo-stick you are gonna make less currency than an optimised TS deadeye speed farming - its OK to make less guys its a game play for fun ;)

i would say that that's not entirely true. i dont mind if we can dual wield bows while riding a pogo stick making less currency or having a harder time IF doing so was the baseline of being able to do the end game content.

the reality is, if you're not efficient with your building and gearing, you simply cannot make it far in the game.

the difference between a newbie trying the game out with out a build guide vs one who blindly follows a buildguide is from 10-100k dps vs millions-billions dps.

if you're doing 10-100k dps in this day and age, you probably have locked yourself out of content such as maven invites (for sure a frost bomb can cancel out the regen but still, without frost bomb with that low dps the monsters would outheal your damage).
