Witchest witch defenses

didnt know they changed "shepherd of souls". It might be possible to make smth out of it like vaal arc, maybe..
on Vdiscipline/wicked_ward, no, i havent played with them both this time around. Afaik vdiscipline can be used to kickstart wicked ward and if vdisiplines durations are short (or zero) then something maybe could be done. Big issue is that "traitor" keystone gives charges every 5 seconds rather than 4, so there will be a dead 1 sec window even in success. Some other time after that combo test and this test i've played around with "sudden dawn" helmet which triggers recharge on kills and coupled that with "writhin jar". It worked, but smth was unreliable so i have scrapped that. |

I'll weigh back in because I was "somewhat" misquoted. AdRon does understand exactly my point.
The reason I put "defense" in quotes is because I do acknowledge that ES is labeled a defense. I also acknowledge that EVERYTHING can be considered a defense until you die. That is NOT THE POINT, holy cow!!!!! I was misquoted by the semantic police, who absolutely refuses to understand what I (pretty clearly) meant by my posts and quotations, and even offering the straight up quote that I AGREED with him that it was labeled a defense.... The point is how they ACT in the game. ES does NOT ACT like any other "defense" (if we exclude life from that). It is ridiculous to even say "ES mitigates 100% of damage"....I can say the same thing if you take 4999 damage on a 5000 lifepool. The 4999 life mitigated 100% of the damage because you are still alive. But that is such a nonsensical argument to make, and is needlessly combative. We all know that is not what is meant by "mitigation" when it comes to PoE gameplay. The game wiki itself describes it as a secondary lifepool. That is its role, defense or not. Mind over Matter works the same way, creating a secondary lifepool. Perhaps I should clarify yet again, dumb it down as much as I possibly can: ***ALL OF THESE THINGS BELOW ARE DEFENSES!!! THEY "DEFEND" YOU FROM DYING*** 1) Life, ES, and Mana act as lifepools: they do NOT reduce damage in any way and act as PURE hitpoints. Previously I mentioned that these do NOT act on Monster Damage or attacks in any way because no matter what the damage source is, nothing is changed about the numerical value of damage you take. Apparently this was too confusing for some to understand. 2) Mitigation is another form, via resistances, armour, SS, etc. Mitigation REDUCES the incoming damage from monsters. Previously I mentioned that these act on MONSTER DAMAGE and NOT yourself. Apparently this was too confusing for some to understand. 3) Avoidance is another form, via evasion, block, etc. Avoidance NEGATES the incoming damage entirely, and offers zero protection otherwise. This acts on MONSTER ATTACKS, not damage, and not on yourself. 4) Recovery is another form, via regen, recovery on effect, flasks, etc. This acts on YOURSELF, does not reduce damage or attacks, and does NOT add to your "lifepool" at all. This is more closely related to #1 than #2 or #3. ****What's the point? Any ONE of these from one category, by itself, is useless. Pure ES doesn't exist. Pure Armour doesn't exist. Pure Recovery doesn't exist. The game simply does not allow that to work in any scenario. You basically have to pair at least one thing from two separate categories to have a baseline meaningful defense. Ideally, you would have at least one thing from ALL FOUR categories on each and every character. OP asked for something that functionally doesn't exist in ANY FORM, and then began comparing apples to oranges. I called him out on it. Semantic battle ensued. " This sounds as easy to understand as it can be to me; i read it as quick & dirty TLDR for 'how to build my defences'. Thanks for the effort jsuslak. relax - it's just ones and zeros! Last edited by TRPV1#7216 on Jun 16, 2024, 2:54:40 PM
