This game has an elite rich and a very vast poor population (Currency system is broken)

Yes but then again, this world has an elite rich and a very vast poor population. Is it really the currency system?

I bet I could get you 50 libertarian economy professors that would praise the fairness of the system to you and sing it hymns for an entire week.

Libertarians would tell him that's the way of the world and it's not the ruling power's responsibility to make things fair.

Libertarian*
Feel free to document yourself on their views about taxing the rich, and how it will never work, and how the actual system is quite fair.

Liberals would propose what many US citizens fear would be a socialist world view, and they'd prolly like to tax the rich as much as possible.

I'd personally crap on the whole economy as a whole and destroy it, and give Jacque Fresco the Earth to experiment upon :) (Think about it, GGG!)

To others: this is not about politics&convictions, don't get the topic closed ;)

Who needs an exalted orb anyway. They are vastly overrated. If you compare yourself daily in RL with the uberwealthy your live is shit.

- Play solo or with friends that play the game the same way as you.
- Do not visit the forums (except for build advice or so, but it is tricky)
- Do not trade (The system is crap and you have to meet the uberwealthy)
- Do not visit the forums (I cannot emphasize that enough.)
- Create your own hapiness within the game as you do in RL.
- Last but not least.....do not visit the forums. Forums almost only contain negative threads, trolls, the uberwealthy showing their wealth, bashers, whiners and other people that make your gamelife miserable.

Good luck!!!!

I play the game often, I definitely don't play it HARDCORE as some do all of the time. My point isn't so much about people's play times (Although this has some relevancy to some of my points) it's more the fact that GGG has created a vast economic imbalance with the way orbs drop/valuation of the currency's.

The biggest issue I see is this game GOES ALL OUT and caters to a hard core mentaility, the designers designed the game this way. The reality of the situation your normal gamer plays the game casually. There needs to be better chances at getting better currency items in game.

Another point I'd like to make- the happier you make your average gamer- the more money they tend to spend.

How about we fix the absolutely ridiculous crafting system in the game so it appears rewarding enough to provide the item sink it was designed to be?

This is another issue, the crafting system in game is absolutely ridiculous just as you said.

So here's my question. When we make high orbs more available for everyone, how should we penalize dedicated players so that they're not obscenely rich?

We could put a diminishing returns/drop bias system in place, lowering your quant a little every time you get a drop, penalty expires after X minutes. All internal, not visible. In effect "taxing" the wealthy so that the poor can get more drops. What do you think? (tongue in cheek)

I'm serious, tell us your idea.

There isn't a "fix". Wealth is likely highly correlated with time played, although I'm just waiting for the "zomg X played a day and found koams + 6l + ??? but i spent 1500 fusings". Any form of tolling or taxing will be gotten around due to unlimited free accounts.
I call for a month league with extremely increased drop rates on all currencies and objectively collect data on the matter.

I don't know if I wrote those tips for you or myself. I am a casual gamer myself and have 6 characters, one of each kind, around or just above lvl 50. I am also hitting the walls you describe, haven't found an exalted yet, having problems finding good gear, but am trying to find my own hapiness in this game.
A few days ago I started farming Dread Thicket in Cruel with some IIR with my best character and I found lots of rares and even a few uniques which I couldn't find leveling the normal way. I even could use some of the rares for upgrades (most was trash, I must admit). It made me having fun again and because of the new gear I can level my Shadow some more.

So should we start taxing all the rich players and giving their money to their poor players who haven't gone through the work to get their own currency?

Nah, just make the game much more rewarding for anybody, introduce proper item sinks, and additionally reward the top players with stuff that is visible, but not actually required to play the game.

This way, anybody gets wealth, anybody gets gear (however, it is clear that good gear still must take some dedication), but the gap is much, much smaller in terms of equipment and money, and larger in terms of show-off achievements inside the game. Or maybe useful stuff, like additional portals in a map, or the possibility to choose the mob type in a map once/day etc. (for really dedicated players).

Something along these lines. And don't tax anybody it's not needed here, the "state" does not run on orbs...
