Pure One Hander and off-hand empty character / skill / passives
You're wrong to lose your temper.
Agreed, it's better with an entire role than a unique. But the time to develop a style is far beyond the scope of making a weapon. The barrier isn't so much the weapon as it is the actual development of a new weapon handling. But it is a good idea and it is recognized, at least to an extent. But from being looked on to creation to implementation to tweaking to finalization there's alot of steps and there's alot to do right now. I can bet a silver coin that they are always behind schedule. What about the issue about movement while using skills and the handling there? I think you're being impatient, but you got good ideas. Also, don't let yourself be annoyed, it's just gonna make yourself angry and then you're gonna have trouble relaxing and thinking about ideas or playing the game. |

Okay, enough is enough. If you feel that my unique is 'shitty', gorgi777, you are certainly entitled to that opinion. To claim, however, that I made it 'just for myself' is extremely insulting. I DID make it for my own use but there has been very good feedback from other players who want to try it as well.
Uniques exist at virtually every level -- this is a given in ARPGs. For every Stormshield there has to be a Pelta Lunata; for every Demonspike, an Arkaine's Valor. I like to play at low to mid level, and designed an item that could be used from very low level BUT would hold out until well past the usual expiry of a unique. I have achieved this -- I'm using THAT sword on my level 30 Shadow happily, and don't see this changing in a hurry. I see you quoted the imagist poet H.D. in another of your posts -- I commend your literary erudition. Despite that, it appears you haven't really read the poem I wrote to explain my item. Every word was carefully chosen; every term specific and precise. If you only knew how much I agonised over the third line. 'Unborn killer' -- do you understand these words? Can you see how that fits with the idea of my sword being a low-level item that is destined to be superseded by level 30 or 40? For someone who throws HD and dada references around, this should be simple enough to grasp. In short, I DID NOT make this sword just for myself, and clearly the devs and I worked hard to balance it to fit into the existing list of uniques. I don't really care if you can 'get to level 50 in a week' -- that's not what the sword is for, although wielding it WILL get you to 50 a LOT quicker than almost any other weapon, I can promise you that. This is an item made to be used to get strong very quickly and then passed down to another. It is not your end-game sword and should never be considered such. This is not the function of uniques in Path of Exile. I strongly suggest you (re)read the following link: http://www.pathofexile.com/news/2012-02-16/dev-diary-unique-items Finally, I came up with this idea well before this thread was made, so please don't make out like I've somehow 'ruined' the concept of a Duelist acting as a Duelist should -- if anything, I've made it POSSIBLE. It wasn't cheap. It wasn't even that easy. It was absolutely worth it. A little gratitude would be delightful. That is all. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. just FYI, the following is unsolicited. I just felt I should say it as it wasted a page or two to pointlessness.
Sorry about my part in derailing a perfectly good thread and sorry about winding you up gorgi777. Your ideas were fine it was simply your delivery which prompted me to be an antagonistic Troll. I cannot promise I will not be a douche in future, but I acknowledge my part in this thread and am sorry it has resulted in you getting probation, that was not my intention. sorry about that. anyhow, back on topic. the required result could be achieved using either a dirk or armguard (like was in previous versions)... why were armguards removed? were they to confusing/unused? I know I initially thought they were a glove and it took a while to suss out which slot they went in. I have to however return to dedicated animations for something like this being necessary to make it shine as a feature. a possibility could be (and this is purely wishful thinking) would be reimplementation of arm guards and when the arm guard is equipped then the player would use a custom set of animations assuming they have a sword or stabby weapon equipped (eg not a mace or axe) and for the record, I used to always use charlotte in samurai shodown 2 ..... she was badass =P :: sƃuıɥʇ ɟo ʎɔuɐʇsuoɔ ǝɥʇ ɟo ʎʇılɐǝɹ lɐuıɟ ǝɥʇ ǝq plnoʍ sıɥʇ ʎɐʍɐ ʇǝƃ plnoɔ ƃuıɥʇou ʇɐɥʇ os plɹoʍ ǝɥʇ uı plɹoʍ ǝɥʇ ǝpıɥ oʇ ǝɹǝʍ noʎ ɟı ʇnq :: Last edited by DasRoach#6897 on Jun 13, 2012, 6:54:01 AM

" From what I know, it was the result of so many people asking how to wear them during an open beta weekend. I winced every time the question came up, that's for sure. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" There was another thread about punching characters, which rely solely on auras, passives and occasionally Elemental Hit. It's a fine testament to the game that you can actually pull this off with some work -- the damage bonuses on gloves, rings and amulets alone can carry you through Normal easy. That said, if you guys could make a line of gloves that disable both hands but have an inherent/implicit physical damage addition and worked with certain skill gems, I think I'd possibly squeal in joy. Seriously: punching with Infernal Blow? Fist of the North Star! ...And then next, we need boots that do the same! Kicksplat! If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. +1 for a line of punching gloves.

Granted, but as i mentioned earlier, I too was confused at first with where it would go (initially i thought it was gloves)
Maybe to avoid confusion like this they need to have a "slot" field in the item stats telling you which slot it uses. I would have known right away if it had something like "slot : offhand" underneath the item name. Personally, I quite liked the idea of rope arm guards, I had never seen them in an RPG before (as well as I can remember) If they were to reinstate them, I would love GGG to also introduce parrying daggers and a "cape wrapped around the forearm" like some of the duelists of old sometimes used. I could see some people confusing a parrying offhand dagger with a traditional stabby stabby dagger tho' :: sƃuıɥʇ ɟo ʎɔuɐʇsuoɔ ǝɥʇ ɟo ʎʇılɐǝɹ lɐuıɟ ǝɥʇ ǝq plnoʍ sıɥʇ ʎɐʍɐ ʇǝƃ

" That's some nice idea. When it comes to hand-to-hand you might take Brass Knuckles (or just knuckles). It could be Blunt Weapon (obviously...), and it could spice up things a bit. |

As it stands, some of the claw weapons are pretty punchy...but not punchy enough!
