this league was fun, lets not do it again any time soon

really fun league. im still somehow playing it this far in, last time that happened was the league harvest went core in its op state and before that probably perandus.
and thats the problem really isnt it, leagues where the mechanic ended up bribing us into some kind of degenerate lowball content spam of stuffing your face til you throw up. its been genuinely fun, ive enjoyed it more than ive enjoyed the game in a long time. the mechanic is kind of cool. it makes the game too hard and it is too rewarding, it is a flawed thing but the result has been addictive. i like the woods, i like the idea, the theme, id like to return to the woods again with more content in the future, hopefully a bit more balanced. this mechanic was a lot more fun to engage with outside of the rewards than harvest or perandus was its one of these things tho where its only working this well because its a paradigm shift. it takes our sense of expectation and value that has been built up for years and then blows the flood gates. if you kept this in the game it would become the norm and would not have this feeling. we had this with perandus where before perandus people were so upset they couldnt afford shavs etc, we had that league and actually what happened was yes everyone could get their shavs that league, but actually everything just lost value, not just economic but perceptual. i dont think any of the uniques in the game up til then ever really recovered from the devaluation that perandus league inflicted and all the people who thought having a shavs would be a dream come true stopped caring about shavs. you try and explain this to some people and they refuse to accept that they just want the thing they cant have. those people may come in here and comment, i dont really know that i have the time to have that conversation with them but this is feedback for the devs and i know you guys on the team understand what im saying. you can only have a league that feels like this when you have spent years not having a league like this to lay a groundwork of expectation, this league is rapidly burning hype capital that it took years to accumulate. all the things that were normal in the game in 2023 would have been seen as insane back in 2013 and no one gives a shit because theyve become normal. whats happening now as fun as its been for the last 2 months is completely degenerate nonsense and cannot be allowed to become normal. path of milk the spire in yellow maps is just as ridiculous as path of harvest was or porrendous spamming. it was really fun while it lasted but probably best if we put it back in the naughty box for another 3 years before we do this again. genuinely had a great time tho so thank you to all involved. i think this is the first time weve had an unreasonable loot explosion league thats also been a really fun activity and not just something im suffering because its giving me all the candy. i think this is precisely why we need more frequent "events" where they give us this kind of crazy stuff.
There is another issue with leagues like this, and its a bit of the opposite of "this becomes the norm, therefore boring". Everything ELSE for a long long long time after this league is going to feel....bad. It is MUCH harder to get over the feeling of "but during affliction/harvest I had THIS level of power" than it is to deal with a new normal. In that respect, YES, they should absolutely close the floodgates. But not for three years. They need to give us a BIT of dessert sprinkled every now and then to give us our hit of power dream to keep us coming back for the punishing times. Temporary 1-week, 2-week events that are actually MORE rewarding than normal league play. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Feb 5, 2024, 3:40:22 PM

agreed, I want more events after 2months of the current league, so I don't have to do them myself via private leagues. I hate the current 4-months cycle and I hope we get back to 3months cycle + events in last 3 weeks asap.

" which is exactly why they should either never do this or only do it once every 3 years or so at most imo. frequent little events are cool but if you keep doing this frequently then the little events will lose their sparkle very quickly and the rest of the game will feel like total shit forever. we will never get over it. its very hard to conjure a sense of value, i feel like often we players dont appreciate just how fragile and essential that sense of value in the item system is. without that this game collapses, the whole thing rests on us feeling like these items matter, like what we are doing is rewarding. a mageblood dropped for me this league. first time i ever found a mageblood. i moused over it, oh thats a mage, i smiled, picked it up. that was it. no reaction like you see in the compilation videos of people finding magebloods and losing their minds, ive found tons of things in this game that have made me shout out loud, hit loads of crafts that made me get out of my chair with hype. that unique dropped and it was kind of whatever. that was the 4th mageblood i have acquired this league, i was wearing a pink foiled mageblood and a pink foiled kalandra ring when it dropped. if i ever find a mageblood again its just another mageblood. this is how much just this small window of time has robbed items of their sense of value, this is the amount of capital this league has spent from the bank of the players feeling of worth in the item system which is what underpins them even bothering to play. they got away with harvest by the skin of their teeth, theres still people crying about it, there were people crying about perandus for years. i think theyre going to get away with this one just about, the item system has just about held on, the currency proliferation has stopped all unique prices crashing into the dirt. squires are 2 divines down from about 40, you can literally farm 1 yellow tier map and afford an extremely expensive chase item. i have 24 squires in my stash, 15 kalandra rings 5 of which are foiled, 4 magebloods, all im doing is playing tier 8 tropical islands, i was farming them with 20c invested in my gear and apart from throwing on one of the magebloods i havent invested anything rly in my actual character. im using an extremely rare ruby foiled kalandra to mirror a 10 chaos ventors gamble lol. theres 2 of those ruby kalandras on the entire market in standard and the cheapest is 10 mirrors, im using it to dupe a ring i will literally vendor when the league is over. ive done nothing, ive put in no effort, ive invested nothing. im running self found scarabs, no sextants, i havent bought any juice ive just been self finding scarabs and rerolling them for abyss with self found harvest juice running around in yellow tier maps with 20c of gear from trade. no squire or mageblood or kalandra ring is ever going to have any sparkle for me to loot ever again. ive never found a kalandra or a squire and theyre already 'whatever/meh/eh thats fun' tier drops now. if they do this regularly they are going to tank their entire game, cause if you guys dont feel like i feel already then give it another few months of having this sort of thing and youll be right there too. i remember finding a 1k life kaoms heart in open beta 2013. i can still picture it from 11 years ago, i can see the moment it dropped in a lvl67 cemetery map in my mind, ill remember it forever. i remember the moment i found a lioneyes bow about a month later. i can barely remember any moments in diablo 3, finding anything, i stopped this league to play the new d3 season for a few days, i have 4 primal ancients in that game this season i found on day 2, i cant remember where any of them dropped. doesnt mean anything, theres no sense of value in that game. i played it for a couple of days and i was done. the most genius thing ggg has ever achieved is the sense of value their item system has maintained for 11 years. but i do agree with the little events. personally i have 0 interest playing anything that is voided, i only care about items that last forever. i think you cna have fun and different little events, id like to see more of them. i would worry tho if they had insane loot like this, even if it was voided i think you only find your first mageblood once, you only find your first mirror once, if you cheapen that experience for people by having it happen in a stupid loot explosion bubble where everything feels like a joke then you spoil something the game has worked extremely hard to achieve. it seems like you are rewarding the players but youre not, youre actually taking something away from them that they cant get back. This kind of loot spam is great for these 10-day events.
Normally I skip these events because why bother when I have to start from absolute scratch and do the campaign once again when this event has such a strict time limit. By the time i reach maps the event is wrapping up cos I don't play 50 hours a week, this game isn't my second job. Events should have +100% movement speed in campaign and then global 50% packsize, 100% quant and 200% rarity in end game and winged scarabs at a vendor for 1 alteration each. It's a ten day stint, let people achieve something ffs. Not give them the same loot scarcity as in league but with a strict time limit. League lasts 90-120 days so it should not be this ridiculous ofc. I had a "quit moment" in early January where everybody was printing money with this yellow map cringe and other things didn't caught up yet, so I felt forced to reroll into braindead fulcrum chieftain to keep afloat. Economy did eventually catch up with other content but it took its sweet time. |

"I feel like there's a little "breaking the spell" opportunity in these moments, where for at least some people, it's a positive outcome for them to stop, move on and do something that is fulfilling for them. Because if someone's enjoyment of the game is totally reliant on the drop-rarity dopamine hit to the point that there's no appeal (or worse, revulsion) when that is over- or undertuned...do they actually enjoy playing Path of Exile? Or do they just have a slot machine addiction? "People shouldn't be comparing their responses to their leisure activities to youtube manchildren being paid to emote. A movie or a book isn't bad for not making you stand up and scream, and neither is a game. "I smiled and picked it up" is a normal, healthy human reaction, not indicative of any kind of failure by any party. |

Eh, I don't care about short-term events. I would love if GGG made more leagues that were worth running through its entire length rather than you getting bored 1-2 months in and quitting until the next.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |

You can always start in a fresh league, you know? Personally I played in a private league for 6 weeks, completed all the challenges then worked on some fun side projects. Now I'm on a fresh start in HCSSF and having a blast all over again.
Interest ebbs and flows but I wouldn't put it on the league. There's always new builds to try The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

What a bunch of nonsense! So you can't appreciate nice food unless I starve you first? You can't appreciate affection unless I withhold it for a protracted length of time?
PoE is a game, it's supposed to be fun. Let people have fun. It's as simple as that. |

" You missed the point...its not that you can't appreciate nice food without being starved....its that if you only EVER eat nice food, its not really nice food is it? It's "normal" food that you get tired off. And then my point was, if you are treated to 3 michelin star food for a few months, and then go back to taco bell...that feeling of loss is quite profound and problematic. Is it NOT as simple as "let people have fun" because what people find fun can be and IS artificially influenced by leagues. It is pretty common for folks to THINK that all they want is to be given everything (like harvest, this league), but if that was every league we would have a dead game.
