We need to talk about ruthless. Please devs hear me
" No? Dodging consecutive boss attacks / circles you'd usually Flame Dash out of is much harder in Ruthless, ascendancies have much less power, the crafting bench is unavailable. And even on my character Ambush only works to jump to an enemy, teleporting you right behind them. That means.. no enemy, no target to jump to, and you can only get closer not farther away. The same is true for other mentioned movement skills (Flicker, Consecrated Path) The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

Considering those bosses were originally designed with free dash skills in mind, and (afaik) weren't adjusted for ruthless, this looks like "and then we've doubled it" unhinged change, like with uber bosses when they've just removed bullet hell shield for shaper or added a ton of degen ground on sirus.
There will be players interested in that kind of challenge of course, but it is not choreography, it is "you WON'T ever say you beat all our content!" squeezing blood from a player, both in ruthless vs common bosses, or in standard vs uber bosses. |

All uber pinnacle bosses have been beaten in Ruthless.
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

I know, this is poe :) You can still eventually grind yourself up and dps them down.
Please don't think I am ranting, it is actually fascinating how GGG manages to drag players through same grind loops again and again and again, and even while adding more tiresome grind like ruthless. Must be the longest going active Arpg in history. |

"IIRC Infinite Hunger was changed (in general) due to Ruthless movement nerfs. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" The only thing they changed was how fast you acquire Corrosion stacks back in 3.20 and that was a general change. Please add a source to that claim before the Ruthless haters run with it screaming "see? we told you Ruthless affects the normal game" like some maniacs The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge. Not hating ruthless, just considering it waste of resources, to be working on something like that when core game had a mountain of problems.
But regardless, ruthless does affect core game simply because of being the pet project of someone influential at GGG. It's both a display of direction, and a reason for consideration for all who work there (even they weren't involved in developing ruthless directly). Every change to core game they are making, they have to weigh against ruthless too. Last edited by Echothesis#7320 on Jan 19, 2024, 1:35:04 PM

" Not going to dig for sources. I used "IIRC" because I only have a vague memory of this. So IIRC: 1) There were a lot of complaints about Infinite Hunger vs Ruthless. 2) There was some statement (probably someone from GGG directly or indirectly) that bosses should be doable without movement skills and that if there was an issue with doing a boss without then it should be changed in general and not just Ruthless. And (also IIRC) this was before the start of Ruthless itself. And as I didnt participate in the alpha/beta/discord I must have gotten these elsewhere, probably reddit, maybe forum here, less likely some vid or sth. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!
