Reduce multiple screen wide clear builds to 0 pls.
The game is currently in a state where it's impossible to play becasue of all the server lags.
I can imagine that all the screen wide clear builds like LA or poison balista cause this issue (It was the case in many other games before, guess POE won't be different). So for the sake of the game performance please get rid of all the builds who clutter the whole screen with effects, so we can play the game without all the server lags we currently have. Let's go back to the roots where it was neccessary to play tactical instead of shooting 1 arrow and clear 54646584 screens at once. I know many kids will whine if they can't clear multiple screens with 1 shot but they'll get over it.....The game is currently unplayable state becasue of all the server lags caused by builds who have screen wide clear effects. The power level is already at a state that makes the whole game trivial, nerfing AOE builds by reducing they screen wide clear won't hurt the game but would improve the performance. Thank you Last edited by CroDanZ#1818 on Dec 18, 2023, 10:28:09 AM Last bumped on Dec 20, 2023, 11:46:17 PM

That's... not how that works

" In Diablo 3 we had a simular case with Meteors or with Area damage f.e., only to name 2 of many. In POE it's surely becasue of all the multiple projectiles who do certain screen wide AOE effects for sure, even worse with returning projectiles.....or screen wide explosions. As more people play such builds as worse the server perfomance for everyone else ....This is exactly how it works in all games out there who have/had the same problem, why should POE be different in your oppinion? ^^ Ofc they're other big factors like shaders or the dated engine, but screen wide effects are also a big part for the current performance issues. ;) Last edited by CroDanZ#1818 on Dec 18, 2023, 11:10:14 AM

" Yeah and in D4 they cant give you more inventory space because you load other people's inventories as well Let's not assume GGG adopts Blizzard 'practices' All of this is assumptions. You didn't impose a question, you came to a conclusion off a thought you had. This ain't it The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge. " That's why I've said "Diablo 3" because it had similar global performance issues becasue of certain AOE effects. Diablo 4 is a complete different case tho. And ofc it's an assumption and maybe the new singing goblin is the reason, but from my experience the last 2 decades in this genre it was mostly becasue of certain AOE effects who fill the whole screens with effects. And if they're not the reason it would still be healthy for the game to reduce them to 0....it would make melee builds a viable option again if range builds can't clear 50000 screens wide with just 1 shot and being the go-to option for mapping becasue of that. ;) Last edited by CroDanZ#1818 on Dec 18, 2023, 11:28:56 AM

" Paragon area damage case in D3 was notorious, but it was a late upgrade to existing mechanics, likely poorly executed within limits of their server design. Servers may strain from any other design bottleneck, not necessarily from exceeding cpu capacity, which should never happen in the first place. Both blizz and GGG have resources to scale their infrastructure if needed. For example, that funny twister build from avian aspect crashed their instance in a few seconds even with a single boss on screen :) GGG had to nerf-kill the build mid-league, causing nice outrage. " Hehe, ye I saw that....think trigger-bots caused this aswell and few other builds. ^^ Ye upgradeing the infrastructure would also be a solution but I doubt that investing a lot of money to do so wouldn't be be theyr primary step to fix it. ;) And lets be honest, POE already bacame some sort of Diablo 3 with all the screen wide clear builds....wouldn't be wrong to become more like Diablo 2 again gameplay vise by reducing all those builds and going back to the roots just a little bit. It would make the game way more interesting again and would reduce the performance issues,....it's practicaly a win-win situation. :) Last edited by CroDanZ#1818 on Dec 18, 2023, 12:04:58 PM

full-screen clear builds DO impact performance
it is all about cycles, CPU cycles. hitting 50 mobs at once eats up more cycles than hitting 10. given that 'frame' length is fixed at 16ms, it CAN be a problem. at basic level there are inherent limitations to performance you cannot bypass, no matter what POE is hosted on virtualised, orchestrated instances, most likely 50 or more per one 'machine' once instances stop eating 1/50 power but 1/20 or 1/10 in spikes, orchestrators start to a) overbook, aka assign 10 instances per node instead of 50 thus costing GGG money or b) react slowly (hysteresis) to changes causing periodical stutters for EVERY player on a given node when instances fight for resources that arent there it is square on GGG to force mob density that resembles a soup, it is on them that many of these mobs and players have auras, it is on GGG that most skills are 'instant' in some way instead of gradual damage application all these cause MASSIVE spikes in cpu cycle consumption leading to stutters for every single player on a given node (imagine gaming on a PC that runs a cinebench in the background, this is precisely what happens) you can do magic tricks - like they did with auras+summoners, when these auras refresh not every frame but every n-th frame, but at some point you reach the limit given that virtualised cpus are in general slower and less 'magic' than bare-metal you get even bigger performance hit i wouldnt be surprised if it turns out that these massive lags people experience come from multi-screen clear builds. they are simply too popular. it is no longer one heavy build per 20 town dwellers, it is 15 tornado shot per every 100 players out there. it is a lot. (actual deployment is much more complex but if people have to ask, this is good enough) |

switching servers and league mode can help but you will still occasionally smell the serverfire
the way it is atm reminds me of the vacuum cleaning days when ppl. sucked up all mobs with a zero dps reverse knockback cyclone ontop of ghosts then killed em all in one spot and painted the whole instance with loot while their buddys where standing in ledge and waiting for a crash and rollback so that they can print the next patch of six links im honestly curious if the tech or gameplay is going to improve first. probably the latter might have a tiny bit higher priority unless ur into paying your electricity bill for a downscaled blurry clown fiesta where your biggest task is to click into rectangular boxes with words in it like in a fing clicker game wsad kitealot path of exile cant come fast enough at this point Last edited by ScoutAT#2736 on Dec 18, 2023, 4:53:31 PM

I Have no clue about this technical mumbo jumbo, but the idea sounds great for both the reasons that were given.
