Probably quitting the league early - Story getting harder each league is NOT fun

Played 10 years, somehow still play worst than some people I've seen on their first playthrough.
Why am I still here

Hello,

I know it inside out...

If you're having trouble with the campaign, then this is factually untrue.

Cool post though!

He never said he was having trouble with the campaign. He said it's not fun to do anymore. If he was having trouble with the campaign, would he have played for 10 years??
lol at most of the replies here saying git gud while playing ranger and ARROWS

i have 2 100s deadeye TS in standard and i am not playing yet another TS this league, which incidentally is the top build in poe ninja for 3 leagues running

diversity of builds i call it BS

a lot of you seem to just avoid what he's saying "its not FUN" anymore and just poking at him for being bad.

personally i've always played a weak ass build. the same ass build for 10 years.

on std i've managed to clear most of the content. notable things i havent cleared are the feared, uber pinnacles and any "elevated" content.

currently on affliction i just unlocked my waystones last night, still on 5 links.

there are 2 times that i felt pissed leveling in poe in my "10 year" experience.

the first was in AN, for obvious reasons.

the second is this league.

i dont know how it was in tota as i skipped it. but this league?

omfg.

the frequency of meeting monsters with "cannot be leeched from", "prevents players from recovering above 50%", regenerates is much more often now.

dont forget the "cycling resists" and "blocks attacks".

every league i go in, i feel the game is LESS FUN then before.

a lot of people are on the "git gud" train.

but have you guys considered players who want to jump in and do their own thing?

i KNOW i wont get far with my weak ass build. i've actually tempered my expectations. i wont be able to do the uber pinnacles. i will struggle with maven. i will struggle here and there. but this is MY WEAK ASS BUILD and i m making it work as far as i can.

why dont you play a build? i always have this notion in all the games i play, am i playing the game or is the game playing me? if i need to follow builds why bother giving players a massive skill tree when everyones going to end up taking more or less the same choices?

POE now is very different from how it was 10 years ago. POE's classlessness was what made me a fan. but the more challenging encounters that are introduced, more choices become unviable.

sure you guys adapted. good for you. instead of shitting on weaker players, why dont you guys let them speak? you lose nothing. if weaker players have a more fun time playing this game, we'll farm currency to buy your good gear. more weaker players = good for you. whats with all this elitism?

more players = more good. no?

Line has to be drawn, players/customers are NOT always right that’s how you go out of business/ ruin your game.

OP is saying the story is too hard to level PC. But then says they know so much and have to be a meta slave in order to enjoy anything.

Which is a complete garbage thing to say and is 100% a player issue. The story can be done with frost bomb if you honestly wanted to make it happen.

Won’t really keep this thread going with these obvious replies but the foot has to be put down on players wanting to select on the character creation screen “give me mage blood or I whine”

i agree that players and customers are not always right. there are things that GGG has to put a foot down but that said, "what is right" is subjective.

the counter point is other devs like actiblizz. i know its a bad example but it is an example.

is OP wrong by saying you need to be a meta slave to enjoy the game?

there are a handful of ARPGs in the market right now. if i recommend a newbie gd/tli/le and they ask me what build should they follow i will tell them go in blind. perhaps tli requires a build guide if you want to play all the way up to endgame where things require hundreds of millions to billions of dps. but in the most part its ok to play without a build guide.

poe is a game where efficiency is REQUIRED for success. the difference between a newbie going in blind could be 100k dps VS some build follower doing millions.

if you insist on doing your own thing, if youre not doing millions of dps, monsters become threats that would kill you the longer they stay alive

the difference is notable when you compare someone playing an efficient build who can clear tons of content safely vs one who is not. it is a sharp contrast. this game punishes people hard.

one of the best ways to farm in this game is to sell essences. if you barely scratch 1million dps. i would you're not gonna have a good time.

if you cant at least alc and run, your shitty drops are even shittier.

you are actively punished if you are weak. it is hard to climb higher if you are inefficient.

most of the D4 streamers that came to poe thankfully dont play melee strike skills as their main skill. melee strikes early game simply is not efficient.

i will say this. its easy for a good player to feel that the game is fine when they have tons of experience playing the game. i bet that you are a good player. you know how to play this game well. but that said, it has caused you to be blind for the issues that a weaker player faces.

for sure i can agree with you 100% player issue. but the question is why is it a player issue? is this game too hard? did the player "choose the wrong skill"?

personally, i only find poe fun after i have 10-20 divs sunk into my gear.

i always find the game not fun until a certain threshold.

AN actively made POE a worse experience for me but i know better players love AN as they give more drops.

that said, i've encountered so many "unkillable" enemies while in campaign this league, its the first time i actually run past them.

i echo OP's opinion on the story getting harder and increasingly unfun.

in comparison i played GD a lot. each time i struggle thru and get stronger but it is fun. rarely do i ever find myself finding a mob thats stronger than the area boss that i have to actually just run away from.

this issue is uniquely a poe issue as with many poe issues.

your experiences is unique to you while his is to him. mine to me. if you were to say OP is simply a bad player. so be it. i dont really bother to check his gear. but i myself am feeling how unfun the campaign experience is. perhaps i am bad too but does it matter? the bottom line is the game is becoming more unfun.

does credentials matter? do you need a streamer to tell you, "oh yeah the game could be less fun if you use certain skills or dont know what you're doing" before saying hmmmm maaaaaaaaybe theres some truth to it after all

Do credentials matter when the thing they are complaining about can be fixed by improving those credentials?

Yes.

The solution is already in game for them. If the OP wants to put the absolute lowest possible amount of effort in the game and then complain how things are unfair and not fun then they need to look inward, not outward.

This would be like coming into WoW not getting any gear or understanding any form of progression, running around naked, and complaining that they cant complete the story questline cause "elitism"

Its nonsense.

Whats worse is, this is just a complete L even if OP gets what they want. Say they make the story so much easier. They didn't mention anything about mapping and now the gap between mapping and story is even larger. Next thing, using the OP's logic, is to nerf mapping.

i reread his first post to make sure i dont get it wrong. he's lamenting on how difficult the game is.

stuns/freeze/chills. this means nothing if you're using a non strike skill or have enough skill to dance around bosses. i purposely avoid using strike skills despite loving viper strike when starting new leagues. heck even as a marauder, the starting heavy strike sucks, you definitely do get stunned/frozen/chilled a huge lot. to make things worse, you swing your weapon slow as hell.

and yeah i do know that some players are skilled enough to dance around bosses using those skill AND kill them without getting hit. but that is not a good representative of the player base. most players cant do that, and most players dont use those strike skills and go for other aoe/projectile skills which makes the problem become "less of a problem".

you wont feel its a problem maybe because you're not affected by it. whether by your immense amount of skill/experience or your choice of skill. when it doesnt effect you much you might not feel its an issue.

also OP talked about getting soul eater in SIX areas back to back. in campaign no less. if you're weak soul eater absolutely wrecks. is it a rare mod? maybe. but 6 back to back?

i also have my fair share of unpleasant unkillables this league. if we're playing the "credentials matter" game. i've played almost every league. this one particular league (beside AN) was the first league where i first SKIPPED rare monsters during campaign.

normally i take 3-5 days to complete the campaign as i have some ocd where i d want to kill everything i see. this really is the first time i actually skipped mobs. i dont know if GGG tweaked anything but its almost as if regenerating/cannot leech/soul eater/cannot regain health/cycling resists mods are quite common even while in campaign.

that is simply unfun.

the game did get harder over the years but this is the first time that it got to this point. even in AN league one could argue that it was the fault of AN being overtuned, but we're talking about campaign rares. not even wisp touched.

this is something GGG did. intentionally or not. the game is harder and it is less fun to people like me and OP.

the solutions lie within the game? you know, you're right. players will need to watch a few "things i wished i'd known before playing" youtube vids/guides before they actually enjoy playing poe.

for sure. you can say that of course we need some knowledge and understanding to play poe or any other game too. but we're voicing our opinions and our experiences. my experience mirrors OP.

what i feel is the game is harder now compared to before and as a result it became less fun.

theres a reason why theres "no fun allowed" meme going around in the community. i am not asking you to agree on the point. your experiences made you form your opinions. if you think its as fine as is, you are correct based on your experience.

OP and me have had the opposite experience.

personally i chalk it all to AN. its the worst thing to happen to POE imho.

Op is not wrong, leveling experience as a whole would be 8234829537% better if you get geared as you kill shit like you suppose to. Instead you are forced to participate in a shitty trading or random bullshit crafting.

I feel your pain cuz devs tailor the game for teenage math nerd addicts rather then hack n slash stoners

I'm in the same boat, I left around ultimatum iirc, poked my head in a few times and stayed out until this league. The drops this league are fine, honestly they are great RN, I can now pretty much handle "x-mod" red maps, but the building has gotten way too tight and the one-shots have gotten worse and more arbitrary. It doesn't make up for the loot showers. I didn't mind taking longer to save up in exchange for a less spastic play experience. Now, I juice a map, run into the dark to get glitter bombs and then everything is a bunch of flashing lights and dodging and maybe I get one-hit, just because, and maybe I don't. People can come on here and argue with other people's opinions, but I'm not buying it. I can decide if something is more fun or not. I play hard games, hundreds of hours in Elden Ring and loved it, play a lot of Dark Tide. I like becoming better or more skilled in response to a tough boss that hits hard, but this game is more gear tweaking than skill for any of the balanced builds, and good luck if you don't follow a build or want to spend the time with POB. It's the opposite experience. You have no idea what kills you, so you can't improve, but you go spend your obligatory 50 divs to get SS up and a bunch of phys to ele gear and you survive it. That's the "skill" really. Spend a bunch of time grinding out essence to get divs and you're "skilled" now. Literally. I'm mediocre at hand eye stuff, I was losing a week ago, I googled moneymaking in POE, switched my atlas passives to essence, spammed white maps, bought all the obligatory junk show and now I can go get the loot piñatas on T16s. No change in skill. It was always a bit this way, but there was at least some consistancy in the ceiling on mobs and you could expect a certain level of rippyness based on the map mods, but this league is all over the place. I miss the hell out of my golemancer in heist.
