Chieftain in 3.22
" I don't disagree on the resistances, that was nice but it means most of your power cannot cannot come from the ascendancy unlike normal classes. It's really easy to find resistances on gear even if it consumes slots, but if you look for some of the more desirable mods to compensate for power, that is difficult. When you go for all those advanced mods, you end up with a pretty steep floor whereas with regular gearing for chaos resistance and such, the floor's pretty high. If you can make money quickly at the start, it works well. Having no dps is just as bad as having no defense because you still end up dead due to monsters persisting. |

" I did try to cry wolf as you know from other threads about this very type of behavior from GGG and where it might lead if they keep treating ascendancy's like they have been. Innocence forgives you

If RF is for mapping, chieftain it is;
- Easy 90 res for elemental damage. - DoD amulet for small hits. - Elemental damage taken as phy for physical damage. Better than Armour. - Explosion with prolif for clear. - With that setup you can take all altar mods and most of the map mod. I even didn't reroll less aura effect mods on map. Also addition, Chieftain is by far worst RF starter, you should know. |

Chieftan is a good balance for getting first 2 voidstones in hc while providing solid mapping and easy to get resistances early on. You can very very easily do eater and exarch on hc on chieftan rf. cloak of flame pretty much carries through the entire campaign for phys mitigation if you can get one early enough with a 4-5l. There are things about other ascendancies that work just fine too but the completely ignoring res and running purity of fire is really good early on.
you can just get chaos res/life on everything and be good. I don't really know if there are many other good applications for chieftan, with melee you get no attack speed from ascendancy which is cancer, and slam totems are a joke now (for my tiny brain). Jung did some bodyswap simulacrum farming but ive never played corpse builds before so i didnt try it. |

I want the Chieftain rework reversed immediately. I hate the change so much it's unreal.

I do not hate the new chieftain as much as I thought I would. That being said there are some glaring issues that need to be addressed in the game to compensate. Melee totems are pretty much not playable anymore without the activation range you could get from old chieftain you have to hang around in melee range for them to kill anything now, why even play totems at that point. Covered in ash being only available behind a melee cluster and requiring you to not move for 2 seconds is a bit of a bummer if you want to play a spell and you only really need covered in ash in those instances where standing still for 2 seconds is not an option. In the end the resist nodes are worth the tradeoff, Its just really hard to find any worthwhile damage. It feels like its only for skills that carry themselves now. Its literally not good at anything in particular other than obtainable resistance cap.

Chieftain /chēf′tən/
noun The leader or head of a group, especially of a clan or tribe. A captain, leader, or commander; a chief; the head of a troop, army, or clan. Poe Chieftain: None of that. Could as well be called Pyromaniac with half the nodes being about fire. Give it the totem identity back and give more support to it. |

" its all over the place, Cheiftain has been through this a few times and its drifting too far away from what its supposed to be, they really need to get the cheiftain back to normal and then add some advanced ascendancy to swap to for these shenanigans.
