Chieftain in 3.22
Does anybody like the chieftain?
Before coming back to PoE this league, I remember him being quite different. Just looking at the version history and his present state has me somewhat puzzled. While he does seem fairly thematic, he doesn't seem particularly ... strong. His (now) one single totem notable is ... nice, I suppose, but not nearly as nice as the hierophant's. Investing into two ascendancy notables for very good elemental resistance is ... decent I guess? And the slam and stoke notables are nicely thematic. But the rest of the fire notables has me scratching my head. Ramako is nice if you plan on channeling fire DOT I guess, but that seems somewhat niche. Hinekora looks like it could help a bit in tight packs if you are having problems with clear, but doesn't sound great for bossing or tougher enemies and seems a bit spiky at 5%. You can't really scale it, can you? And Ngamahu confuses me: as if the marauder would have difficulty in obtaining increased fire damage? Does this really save much patching, and is increased really all that interesting as opposed to more? Also, it doesn't seem to work with DOT, only for hits? That seems quite unsynergistic ? I realize I'm not good at this game, so I'm sure I'm missing something. I'd be keen on your feedback. My feedback regarding the chieftain rework is unimpressed. Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion Last edited by onomastikon#6270 on Nov 29, 2023, 10:53:21 AM Last bumped on Nov 30, 2023, 3:58:32 PM

He's actually really nice for RF explode but that's about it. I've been playing one on HCSSF and he's pretty strong.

Power wise its fine, thematically it feels like a step back from the previous one.
Its also not very versatile |

" Second this. New Chieftain is incredibly strong for an extremely small number of builds. Just don't expect to play the same totem setups people used before. |

For me it's cool, I hit in Ruthless lvl 95, good defensively, hmmm, offensively, well, it's not that great

Unless you're melee, the chieftain ascendancy is a turtle and should be renamed as such. There's great defense, but other than the melee nodes at the bottom, the rest is pretty niche and offense is not there.

" I don't think that's the right way to look at it. This new chieftain is different from everyone else in that if you take the ascendancies plus purity of fire (or just a gob of fire res in 1 mod somewhere), you are pretty much set for ele res. While every other class needs a ton of ele res on gear, the chieftain needs 0. That means you are free to go all offense on your gear instead. That also means if you want to play a unique heavy build, the chieftain offers you that in a way no other ascendancy does. |

you dont take chieftain
you buy (extremely expensive) flesh/flame jewels and call it a day. chieftain has strong nodes but as a whole it just does not click totem and STR/fire damage nodes are just bad. like BAD. melee stuff is only good if you want to play bad build so.. just steal the one great node (max res) and play jugg note: flesh/flame jewels did class idea dirty by brutally singling out crap classes and making their raison d'etre donating good nodes via jewels.. i plan on league start with RF chief because it will make gearing easier. not having to worry about resistances is good early on. then later when i have some wealth i will switch to jugg.

Just a bland and bad change to give us the taste of what classes in PoE2 are going to look like. No real identity and just one or two neat things to support one or two viable builds (aka RF or armor stack for chieftain as example)
The old chieftain was at least home for a good amount of builds Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid#4643 on Nov 29, 2023, 4:03:15 PM
