This was one of the best presentations I've ever seen, the speaker was oozing enjoyment for his work and sharing it, as well as sharing stuff that's normally kept in, very inspiring.

Standard graphic engines are in no way optimized for the unique camera view, animation speed etc. most (a,t,c)rpgs use. Its the same dilemma star citizen faced when the first used a pre produced engine only to realize that it doesn't have the features they needed to use. Currently only lost ark and torchlight use an iteration of the unreal engine, most others either use something old or use their own engine. blizzard also repurposed their overwatch engine. So yeah the reinvent the wheel, but many do.

Nice guy. Glad to hear he's a physicist.

It's a shame the room was mostly empty. The talk was quite technical but even in the core-game related talks the room was half full at best. GGG should really consider moving this to Europe or the US. They'd get a lot more participation there. I mean NZ is nice but pretty far for most people.

By far the most interesting of the bunch, at least for me. Even if I didn't care much about the tech behind the game, Alex Sannikov managed to make me appreciate the love that's put into it. Don't ever lose this guy, GGG.
