And once the node is complete you cannot access it anymore. However if you fail the node for whatever reason it is still accessible. You just have to pay the azurite cost again.

The look is correct it will just be a rare mob with whatever name and stats. Im not sure about the chance for an ancient suffering to spawn as a normal mob though. The wiki for haunted remains notes you will likely see it as the rare mob at the end of an encounter and is how I personally got the specter myself.
