Feels so awful to play melee in this game :(
I can clearly see the downsides, and the upsides there are are so bad they shouldn't even be a plus. as they developed the melee so poorly intuitive, it seems that the entire skill tree only hinders you instead of helping.
90% of unique melee weapons are completely useless. Map modifiers punish way more melee players than ranged. 95% of melee gems are useless and the good ones have ridiculous restrictions. Forced to use totems cause the melee skill tree lacks good passives that give damage and attack speed. And does my character happen to be blind? melee weapon accuracy is ridiculous so you already have to build armor to stay alive, cap resist, stack accuracy, spend a tom of divines to get at the same level build that only used chaos. and still get less map clear, dps than any ranged. [Removed by Support] Also where is the one handed melee tree? looks like all melee player have to play always with two handed. No money until, GGG fix melee. Are you complaining? I have one tree. It seems you have tons of them! Thats unfair! I got a solution.
Melee (you chose if you wanna be called melee) starts with: + 25 000 Armour New Unique Weapon, could be used 1H or 2H, base dmg 10 billion of phys dmg and ele and chaos and with only one modifier, monster always die even if attacker miss |

It's pretty obvious that GGG has no intentions whatsoever to do anything about melee in this game. The animation updates we were supposed to get got canceled because POE2 is a separate game and they refuse to do anything about the numbers so best suggestion to make here is, if it feels awful, don't play it. Nobody forces you to.

How about to make some passives like
Revenge: "Can't block, when you hit enemy with a physical skill you have 50% of chance of attacking with a socketed melee strike gem with of the damage" and make the character have some "shadow and fast animation to show it hiting" Avatar of Iron: "skills can't cause ellemental damage, all elemental damage you cause is applyed to physical" Fortress: "when you have a shield and sword equipped, the stats of you sword apply to your shield" Heavy metal: "physical damage reduction % is applyed to physical damage" Brute: "Your 2 handed weapons have less 50% damage, can use two: two handed weapons" I could do it all day. No money until, GGG fix melee.

If you will look at poe ninja, you will see that 2 of top 3 dps builds are MELEE. It's not melee problem, it's you can't play melee. Select another skill that corellates with your gameplay

" Firstly POE Ninja is not a statistic for how the game should be played. Every person has their own playstyle. Secondly Melee as a gameplay style often requires you to stand still. POE as a game literally punishes you for standing still. You could have 5x/10X the damage of any ranged or spellcaster build and you would still die more often because you have to stand still. And here is the big issue, spellcaster and ranged builds don't even need half the amount of tankyness that melee builds need. In order for Melee to feel satisfying it needs to be balanced between a reasonable amount of tankyness and a reasonable amount of damage to cope with the fact that you have to stand still. But ranged builds literally don't have to walk the same tightrope making their damage potential far greater and easier to achieve for the average player. Its why in every league starter build list there is always at least 2-3 bow builds and 2-3 spellcaster builds, where as you would be lucky to find one decent melee build. And this has been the case for almost every league including leagues where they buffed Melee like Legion. |

There are at least two movement melee skills that coiuld be graded into endgame and don't require you to stand still: Cyclon and Flicker Strike. Also using Ancestral Call Support increases your range. As well as you could play melee builds in hit and step manner. Don't be DPS greedy and be happy.
As for tankiness - it's required for everybody, who make mistakesm that means everybody at all. Every build could die if you are not good enough to evaluate threat at every moment. " You can't balance a game because of 3 melee builds do 300b damage. Its because the ranged player can make it easier, have a better clear, ignore boss mechanics, since you can dps then from distance and don't really need to follow the boss rules. Try to beat Veritania as a melee, it sucks, try to beat Eater of world as melee sucks, Tutorial how to play any ranged, make damage, cap resist, good to go. Tutorial how to play melee, stack defense, stack resist, stack supress, USE TOTEMS, try to buy a a 10 divine axe, at that point, try to stack impale, rage, melee, main, convert elemental damage to armor, convert elemental % to chaos, get 80% resist cap, result: 4k hp 90%d damage red all res 80% to get one shot by something, have a bad clear and a okay boss fight. "But that one dude have 900m damage" The entire dude build is worthy more than 500 divines to be at that point. and still lose to other builds LOL. No money until, GGG fix melee.
