Make standard characters matter!

they should make battle pass work on standard though. It is just cosmetic anyway and people playing standard are willing to pay for looking fancy more than you would think. Sure, add a delay of a week or two before it is unlocked on standard if it is such an issue.

+1 to OP suggestion, although disabling challenges is not enough for this to work, realistically would probably need disabling loot migration too. Meaning when you import std character in league, make a hidden imprint of this character, and when league ends, revert character to imprint state. While league lasts, only "league" version of the character is playable, so you couldn't jump in and out of the league.
Now, real-realistically, what GGG does is splitting their community, not unifying it :) At first it was only softcore vs hardcore, fine. As more leagues came in, standard vs temp players rift added. Then they added ruthless, +1 community rift in both former categories. Then poe2 suddenly becomes separate game, multiply player strats by 2... No idea how they are going to manage this boiling kettle and appease everyone, especially with questionable balance policy and constant unpopular decisions. edit: forgot, there are also SSF players, lol Last edited by Echothesis#7320 on Aug 18, 2023, 5:49:34 AM

nothing from standard should ever jump back into a league unless its in the form of an mtx.
standards fine, if u want to keep playing your character then play it in standard, why does it need to come to the league? most people dont trade, most people dont party up. i think for the most arpgs are just a thing people play on their own grinding mobs and finding items. it doesnt matter what league they are in, its basically the same thing. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" Your perception of Standard is off. Of the player base, it's 10-15% of players who play in Standard. RMT is mainly a temp league thing (you can tell by the lack of bots) and your view of Standard being a storage space is how you interact with Standard. That's fine, but those 10-15% like I mentioned view and play Standard differently. |

Nothing should ever come from standard into the league under any circumstances.
Perhaps there should be some mechanics that are only available in standard that wouldn't meaningfully change the game. Some people may decide to play more if that were the case. Characters from the league also don't always stay functional even the patch after they are in Standard. I have many builds in standard that are just defunct because they were from years back and I never bothered to fix it or convert them. Not necessarily an issue but perhaps instead of just a full respec, it offered a way to freeze your character to the patch it was played on, at least for mechanics and numbers and the passive tree it was on. perhaps this can be done in some way? |

" Do you have any numbers to back up it's as high as 10-15%? I wouldn't doubt that there are up to 10% on a good day at the end of the league but overall, counting for players who play only at the beginning of the season, do you really think it's as high as 10-15? I wouldn't even give you 3% of the total playerbase. Yes, towards the end of the league there are probably 10% of concurrent players on standard on slow days. But I doubt it's any higher. This game revolves around the league mechanics. that's not to say your fun is invalid, but standard players just aren't a large portion of the game. I would go so far as to say that the game isn't even balanced around it anymore. how can it be? there are so many legacy items that just can't be made anymore in standard or the leagues that it's unreasonable to be catered to. Standard is what it is and if you like it, fine, but ultimately that really isn't going to change. Last edited by Black_Mage#2023 on Aug 18, 2023, 8:41:23 AM

It is not the percentage of players in Standard that matter, but the percentage of GGG income they generate...
According to GGG, the overwhelming amount of money they earn is during the start of a temp league, and from temp league players. Last edited by Cyzax#3287 on Aug 18, 2023, 9:36:44 AM

" so 4 years ago an off the cuff comment of 10-15% qualified with a maybe. Also doesn't tell us the percentage of players who have played there or play there regularly. Maybe 10-15% of people play there. My question is when that happens because it's not at the start of a league. And that's a much more accurate slice of where the game's population play. I'm willing to bet at the start of any given league the number of people playing standard is low single digits. and most of the people who end up petering out after two weeks or so aren't going to play in standard they are doing other things. |

" I may be a sensitive person, but feelings about a game matter a lot, and If i feel that I am playing a singleplayer game, because no one else plays it, then I am quitting. Right now I feel, that every character I make, die, and all my effort and progress is for nothing. Because I don't feel like I play 'with' the community when playing standard. Right there on the other side of the fence (League), the whole neighborhood has a party, that I can't join without going in naked (not that it wouln't be fun IRL, but pls understand my comparison). Also as a response to the people that suggests keeping the char name. For me that is not what my character is, my character is the items I accumulate and combine and use. |
