Make standard characters matter!

This game has so much to offer in terms of 'endless' progression and fine tuning on your characters, but it is cut short by the span of a league.

Is it wrong of me to presume that most people play on the leagues?

I feel like standard is dead, and every character u make is practically a hardcore char with the max lifespan of 3-4 months. I never get to REALLY fine tune my chars with that once-in-a-lifetime perfect item for that one char i made with a specific build.

I don't mind making a new character on league start. But it severely lowers my enjoyment and playtime, that i know it is, in a sense, for nothing (since it doesn't feel like i keep what I earn).

My suggestion is that your standard characters should matter. Let them 'join' the league mid-league, after the first rushing and such is mostly over.
- Make worn items you bring with ur char untradeable.
- Maybe disable being able to work on challenges with that char (if people would whine about that being a thing).
- (Edit) If it's a currency/economy concern for players, atleast make it available for SSF players and GSF players (Guild Self Found, pls implement aswell)

This would bring back the longevity feel of your characters. I can't be the only one feeling this way.

Not to ruin your delusions but Standard has and will always be just the storage place for your collected items during the leagues. Or a temp playground if you want to skip a league but still play PoE.

Not to ruin your delusions but Standard has and will always be Home to countless individuals and a spawning ground for so many new players most of which are just starting to interact with PoE in the default game mode.

When the roots of the tree die, So does the tree.

I think PoE 1, in its entirety, will be what standard is now once PoE 2 comes out.

blizzard coined a good term for "standard league"

which is eternal realm.

things in eternal remain in eternal. simple as that.

similarly standard characters/gears remain in standard.

another thing that blizzard did right was having the concept of REBIRTH.

an eternal character could be "reborn" in new seasons, so you dont consume a character slot and will retain the character name.

and of course the gear will not be retained.

GGG could take a page from blizzard by allowing rebirths.


that said... GGG really needs to give STD players more love.

By countless you mean a small amount of players? But sure countless cause we don't have any official numbers but flying over all the offline trade offers on standard shows you how much of a graveyard it is. But I guess it's home for the rmt folks and their money printers I can agree on that.

So yea you didn't ruined my delusion cause unlike you I know the state of standard league since years. Sorry that you remain in hope that standard might become something big at some point. Probably big once GGG puts PoE1 on maintenance mode without further updates, but even than standard is going to be pretty dead because most players are simply going to jump to a new game. New league content is what the game keeps alive.

In POE, wouldn't deleting a character, then creating a new one with the same name accomplish the same thing?
