Gender locked classes don't belong in 2023 let alone 2024

The question is not if they can do it, but why they would do it. If 95% of people don't care about it, why would they invest money into it?

Its more that posts are being reported than GGG seeking you out, Also they hired a bunch of new support staff just before exilecon as you can see with the wave of account-probations that hit out of nowhere.

Just do your best not to break any rules of conduct, literally they will ban you for saying someone is being "silly" that's all it takes.

Anyway on topic:
I made a thread about this way back https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2665558 and for me i felt like it would've fleshed out the game so much for so many people to have some gender options so that people could further connect with them and the different classes in the game.

I'm a very serious person not because i want to be but because somewhere in my brain there's a part that's not working the same as your average person, Because of this i cannot Roleplay very well among other things but most importantly being immersed in a fantasy world is very difficult and games that are able to deliver this experience are precious to me.

This game is one such game and the expansion of the genders to allow others to find their cozy spot, If i were female im not sure i would've connected with the templar the same as i did being male and vice versa, I loved playing the witch but i never felt i "was" the witch.

There's a lot of angles on why but ultimately if we're immersed in a game we tend to be having more fun than when we arent :P

yeah they do
R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.
I like it how it is with them set in stone, but I don't think they would do it anyways because they would have to redo all the voice lines with different voice actors.

Just please leave that in the past, I want to be able to play a male caster or a female warrior, classes gender locked don't belong in 2023 let alone in 2024.

actually they are totally woke, you can pretend as a male character that you are female and the other way around. How woke is that!
I have a bow-using Marauder. Given the cultural taboos surrounding bow use by male warriors, I just assume that she's an ugly female. =^[.]^=

The only valid argument anyone in this thread has presented is that doing selectable genders is a nontrivial additional cost to game development. That is true, and it is definitely a consideration. There would be something else we didn't get in PoE2 if we did get selectable genders.

I'm generally willing to make that trade because this matter is important to me. We're allowed to see if the matter is important to other people as well. The fact that the matter is not important to you does not mean it's intrinsically unimportant.

Peoples feelings are valid, regardless of which side of the fence you sit on the gender lock discussion.

My feelings are that I really don’t think about the pixel genitals of the avatars I play in my video games.

I guess since the Samus reveal in Metroid I did not feel like something in my masculinity was diminished after spending hundreds of hours spinning around as a female.

Same went for playing as Princess Peach in the Mario universe.

In PoE, I play the build not the gender I want to for a league. In fact it’s kind of refreshing going through the campaign with the different voice lines and seeing how the various MTX adapt for the different models. Once you get far enough and geared enough we are all wrapped head to toe in metal anyway for the most part so it’s can be difficult to tell what underneath all of that pixel bloat any way.

Frankly I find it a good exercise in introspection to slip into the point of view of somebody that is other than me. That is what makes fiction so powerful. Seeing a world through the view of a protagonist and their experiences in the created world is exceptionally powerful. It helps develop empathy for those that have a different perspective in how they are systematically seen in the world.

I guess to wrap this up, my preference would be to not waste development resources on what between an avatars legs and more development on what an avatar can do. I like playing as both a boy and a girl exile and oddly enough if given the choice of class isn’t gender locked I generally gravitate toward male avatars, but that’s for me and my therapist to discuss.

In case it isn’t clear, nobody else is suggesting spending development time on “pixel genitals” either.
