Name Shaming
" Im attached to hard evidence and innocent until proven guilty. Accusations will always be made and people will take them however they want. Most people should only rely on video evidence or screencaps of someone admitting they tried to scam you or the like. |
|
" I disagree on screencaps, photoshop is far easier than video editing. In any event, as it would be too easy to abuse name/shame, I fully support GGG's stance on it. Please familiarize yourself with the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory (GIFT) - http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19
Realize that the only part of the equation you can affect in the GIFT is the audience. Remove the audience and the trolls merely rant at the air. |

" How much quality did the Chaos gem have? Alexis

^most of the higher end skill gems in the way back when could be sold for 1 chaos + depending on the gems. The gem in question was only a plain item quantity.

" You guys are all pwning this thread - great work. This should be the 'naming and shaming' thread to forward new name and shamers too. Qualinthi - I was complimenting you on your usual great logic and making a crap joke in reference to your perfectly relevant masturbation example but Bex_GGG took it as abuse... lol. In case anyone else (who doesn't post dumb shit) thinks I'm 'abusing' them when I make a lame gag please assume I'm just "laughing with you". That is all. " I suggest using reddit for this. GGG is being a bit bias on this because they don't want to have to deal with the support headache. As players in a community, we're the ones that have to deal with shitty players that like to be complete d-bags. Common sense dictates that if someone's name is mentioned once, yeah maybe it's an issue, but if you start seeing a trend where the same person is mentioned by multiple people, red flags start going off. In either case it's our choice if we want to take the risk of interacting with these people and it's pretty inconsiderate and ridiculous for GGG to censor the community from calling out people that are potential threats. |
|
" "Should". Most people will just believe whatever they read though. " a) Make multiple accounts, use them to make several threads over the course of one or two weeks. Not everyone is going to check the creation date of a bunch of accounts to see if their complaint is legit. b) Have a bunch of friends name and shame someone that griefed you (or just someone you don't like). |

I'm not a bad person, so you will have to use your imagination here, but if I were, I would see this community as a griefer's paradise. There are numerous ways a guy can ruin someone's day: some taking advantage of how stupid people can be like bait-and-switch trades, some taking advantage of peoples' greed like sc-to-hc scams, some that can't be avoided unless you already know about it and are anticipating it like the aforementioned exploding arrow pk or the bandit pk.
Then, after making someone feel like shit and ruining what could be weeks or more of work, that person goes to the forums to try to warn others about how I am such a horrible person, but it's okay because not only can I just pm a moderator and get them to protect my identity (even if the person has video proof), I get to strike one more blow against my victim as he is then told what HE is doing is against the rules, and that I did was perfectly okay and there will be no action taken against me. add to that the people who reply to the thread with the usual "lol don't be such an idiot" posts, and you have a wet dream for jackholes that like to ruin communities like these. Best part is there really isn't all that much work involved. Certainly not as much as would be involved in creating multiple accounts that would take a moderator moments to see in order to defame someone, I can just keep griefing everybody I see, and the moderators, their rules, and the community will do the rest of the work. But I'm a nice guy so it's not like I do any of this. IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo

" That's an interesting take but I would see this community as a gamer's paradise. One in which people who like a certain sort of game come to play it and enjoy what is unique about this particular game. If I were coming in to this game I would either make some effort to understand the particular approach this game has to gameplay elements I don't like (e.g. "griefing" or "cutthroat" - whatever and however one wants to define different elements of the game) or dive straight in and play the game, learning as I go. I would then not get upset when the community, the mods, and the devs correct my mistake (the community perhaps less patiently, having to sit through so many upset threads from people who refuse to accept the game's particular perspective, and being unable to answer with finality and authority like a mod or dev) and I would understand that I have the choice to either learn to accept this element and understand it for what it is - as many people clearly do (the mods, the community, the devs) - or choose to play another game that lets me play the way I want. But I'm a bad troll so my words have no meaning. IGN: ScrubcoreRulezBitch Alt: HardcorePwnsScrubcore Last edited by mkmaddage#1774 on Apr 18, 2013, 7:52:23 AM
