New player(crucible) Shaper help

Hi

I want to "finish" this game so badly i hate myself. Im a new player before the shaper, i dont really want to follow any min/maxing build guide becous i want to play my game on my own ideas, i tried 6 times, i have 1m+ consistent dmg, it can peak to 2m, i have 78+ max resist and 50k armor. I have low hp 2600 unreserved life, i know so i use flask and steelskin when i know i will get a big hit, pob says my effective hit pool is above 20k dmg for everything except chaos. Wiki says the shaper little spheres do max 8k dmg, and still sometimes 1 shots me so does the purple "bullet" idk why and im so frustrated, i noticed i can get +2 all max resistance, and i want to try again but i dont know if it worths my time becouse my char supposed to beat the shaper already but its so frustrating and hopeless. I have a flicker strike build, but i had to use dual strike becouse the shaper beam kept killing me. Also salt on injury, my skill dps is 200k going to 1m with all charges, shaper has like bazzilion phases and every time i lose my charges, i get they wanted to make it hard and epic, but it frustrates me so hard to wait out all the dialog and phases while my charges drop to 0.


TL DR:

I cant beat shaper, i have 20k eff hp pool still get one shotted, i can get +2 max res, and with a week farming 3-4 lvl to get around +600 unreserved life but i dont know if it worths my time. I want to finish the game with beating him so much i hate my life, my wife considering leaving me, please help!!!!

PS.: i know my gloves is garbage, i had the perfect gloves, but i needed cold res and +1 frenzy charge on my gear progression, and i lost my will to farm currency for a better one, unless you tell me why do i get one shotted, or i see any hope to beat shaper

I found a cheap upgrade gloves and modified my build to have +2 max res and more hp

Do u think i can beat the shaper with this build? it says my efHP 23k i got oneshotted with 20k efHP is it really that big of a difference? Or maybe i dont udnerstand efHP, i tougth its the damage that would oneshot me, correct me if im wrong. Please save my relationship! i think she will take the kids and the dog too!!!

First off, are you sure you are doing normal shaper and not the uber version? Just asking because we had a bunch of people here who had the atlas node for the level 85 version allocated thinking "1 level higher won't matter much". Hint: It does.

Second, Shapers projectiles, both his normal ones as well as the purple ones during bullet hell have 25% penetration. This means that if you have your resists capped at 78% his projectiles treat that as 53 resis basically doubling the damage you take. His slam hits for like 13k phys damage here you have to watch out for your POB settings as armors damage reduction depends on the size of the hit. If your POB config is on 2k damage he might show you 90% reduction from armor when in reality it's more like 30% against shapers slam. The beam deals like 6k dot damage per second which bypasses a lot of defenses like fortify and spell suppression.

I am not at home so i can't check your POB but i'd say with 2,6k life your chances of tanking anything from him are relatively low. That said, Shaper is a boss where pretty much nothing is left to chance. It's very much realistic to win the fight without getting hit once. You can upgrade your build, you can try learning the fight or you can quit, it's up to you really. If you want to keep improving your build i can take a look at your POB and make some suggestions once i am home unless someone else does it before that. But given how fed up you sound it's probably better if you just quit at least for now. No point trying when you are fed up and mad.

/edit the community fork of POB has the option of selecting several boss attacks for defensive calculations in the config tab. If you set that to shaper balls or Shaper beam and then check the damage you take from a hit in the calculation tab you can see how much damage you'll take compared to how much hp you have and therefor whether you'll survive or not.

/edit2 also worth noting, the wiki isn't up to date in regards to the damage of shapers projectiles. They used to do 8k damage before but they got their damage doubled in 3.17 or 3.18, not sure. So it's ~15k raw damage with 25% penetration in the regular fight.

Thank you for your answer, i compeltly forgot the dmg penetrations becous i have so much resistant, but only with my endurance charges and it falls of every phase, without it i have 74% so for that hit its 49% that explain why it oneshots me, thank you. I dodge every slam attack i do believ i cant tank that. I dont have the uber version. And im really fed up u are right, im so frustrated i was thniking about skipping a night thinking about poe and instead i take care of my wife, but im so close to beat the shaper, i must continue!

I have some gear progression in my mind, my glvoes, then my precursor rings could have +1 frenzy charge, im missing some good lybrinth enchants, if u have any good idea what i could do next which is low effort, i know if i buy mageblood im good, but realisticly im not gonna farm that much before i have to deal with a divorce lawyer.

How to save my charges? i dont think i can with charge duration, i was thinking about that flask that gives me 1 of every charge for hp. Also waiting them out is really annoying, whish i could skip it.

Just switch them in and out for a sec before the fight starts. That said, it won't matter one bit whether you have 74 res or 78 or even 80 res against his projectiles, it's going to be a oneshot anyway. Sweeping changes will be needed if you want to survive one of those.

With all my charges i have +35% res above the cap, i believ this boots solves everything, u are amazing. Cant wait to try it out. Wont i lose charge if i remove the item? Looks too good to be true.

ok i misudnerstood res pen, i was fiddling with pob and set the shaper ball on the boss for damage taken as u told me, and the 25 res penetration applies to my capped not the uncapped res, so it doesnt matter how much res i get if my max res 78, or 81 which i can get with retalent. Sad=( I ll try to look for cold damage taken as another elemnt or some other dmg mitigation.

The boots grant you charges as long as you stand still and remove the charges when you move. If you just equip them while standing still and then remove them again the charges remain because the charge removal on movement effect is never triggered.

OP: For a self-made build without a guide, I must commend you, your passive tree is miles better than what most people under those circumstances can put together. There are a few small things you can do that will significantly boost the power of your character. (Note I am going off the pob you posted)

1) Your flasks. This is a really easy area to fix. The overflowing chalice is pretty worthless. Your quicksilver is blank.

I recommend the following flasks instead (make sure to use 4 Glassblower Baubles on each while it is white before applying Transmute orb and rolling)

a) Item Level 61+ Eternal Life flask. Roll for Condensed Prefix (this is a Tier 2 mod, Tier 1 is Catalyzed but on a life flask, T1 and T2 do the exact same thing as long as the T2 roll is decent; you are looking for 1.2 seconds) Because your life total is so low, one chug of this will instantly bring you to full life. Get some kind of anti-bleeding suffix (beastcraft in the Menagarie if there's no suffix).

b) Item Level 84+ Granite Flask.

c) Item Level 84+ Jade Flask.

d) Item Level 84+ Silver Flask.

e) Item Level 84+ Quicksilver Flask.

For these 4 utility flasks you want the same prefix: Flagellant (if you get Tier2 Masochist, that's fine but I wouldn't go lower).

You want the following 4 suffixes: Armadillo (T1 armour), Impala (T1 evasion), Incision (T1 crit chance), and Dove (T1 attack speed). If you want movement speed (T1 needs item level 85 flasks btw), I would drop the Incision. In all cases, if you want to settle for lower than T1, that's fine but I wouldn't settle too low. The key thing to remember is, it doesn't matter which suffix ends up on which flask, which should make it much easier to roll. I usually roll 3 of them and then just buy the last combo but you can certainly roll all 4.

For these 4 flasks, you also want to put the enchant "Use when full" on them. What this will do is make your flasks automatically drink (less for you to worry about) and the Flagellant will keep you topped up on charges whenever you get hit (which melee gets hit a lot).


2) Get an 8 passive cluster jewel with the notables you have and replace yours. This will save you 3 passive points that you can put into life, which you badly need more of.


3) It is costing you 11 points to get the Frenzy charge/socket/some life on the right side. I would personally cut that off, take the 3-point socket in the bottom right for the jewel, then spend the rest of those points on the small life nodes all over. While it is true that you want as few travel passives as possible, the 2 exceptions are generally life nodes and mana reservation efficiency (that small node next to Champion of the Cause is really strong).

4) Try to get Ancestral Protector in there too. If you support that and Warchief with Multiple Totems Support, you can have both out during a fight.

5) Endurance Charge on Melee Stun isn't very good on this because you don't hit very hard per hit (and therefore won't stun anything that matters). If you are getting Petrified Blood ONLY for Bloodthirst, that is a huge waste because you are drastically cutting your survivability for not much in return. I would personally play Melee Physical Damage Support, Brutality Support, and dump the Petrified Blood. A couple more adjustments and you can get Grace instead, which will literally double your armour due to Iron Reflexes.

If you make these changes, you CAN actually survive the Shaper Slam (not the balls though, those still hurt haha though you might be able to take one).

Im very grateful of your help, i will study it when im done with work. i use endurance charge on stun for the 4% more dmg, i have 9 endurance charge so its 36%, its not that impressive, but im planning to get at least 2 more frenzy+endurance charge. The quicksilver, i swapped it out from the last attempt at shaper but it didnt really make a big difference thats why its naked. And about petrified blood, i have no idea how good dmg mitigation it is, it just felt really good having it, maybe its placebo effect, i felt like i dont get hit so hard and i easily heal the dot with life leach, and i think life leach doesnt stop with petrified blood, i mean the effect, i know it doesnt heal me above 55%. i will try it out without petrified blood, but i will miss it:D. also i dont intend to survive shaper slam, it is easy to dodge it, maybe i should try so he doesnt cast his balls when i dodge away from the slam, i will test it. From al the answers i have another big question.

Are u supposed to survive his balls and slam or not? becouse i feel like i dont understand the point of the fight. If the point is to dodge everything and not get hit, then i think its over for me becouse im old and slow. I made this flicker build so i jsut have to press 1 button and my character moves:D Dodgeing everything is fine until the last phase where a second shaper appears, then its too chaotic for me, i died so many times dodging out from the buble that zana makes becouse after the shaper ended his little teleprot dance he casted beam, and i dodge out of that into one last stray purple "bullet" and died. I tought im supposed to survive at least a single bullet. or not?
