Sometimes I feel like I'm playing a VERY different game from everyone else...

It does vary a bit, and it's raw meta data so you wouldn't know if a single account continued to "not get to maps"

On average 60-70% of total players never get to maps. And it dwindles dramatically from there to even non-pinnacle ubers like Shaper, Elder, Maven, and Sirus. I think like last year achievement wise it was around 1% that killed Maven, and that was up from like .5% or something the year prior. Just shockingly low.

I would if Reddit wasn't in the middle of a pointless protest. I suppose you could do some Steam Achievement research, and some maths, if you were super interested in an up to date figure.

One small step is the achievement.

Yes but it's percentage based, which is why I said some maths (60% of players play PoE in Steam) So unless there would be some statistical data that indicates PoE launcher folks "play differently", I'm not sure it would matter much.

Edit: that said I hadn't looked recently. That number of players making it to maps is really really bad...

Nah wasn't saying they played differently was just curious if that was just steam numbers. Either way surprised its that low tbh.

I hear you OP, and find myself agreeing. I like to use PoB a lot these days, but that's because tweaking builds is kind of fun. It has almost nothing to do with actually playing the game itself. There are certain aspects of the game that are not at all intuitive, but that doesn't necessarily mean you need third party help, it just means you need to experiment within the game itself more.
PoE has a small issue named "It explains nothing". Tooltip is unreliable, mechanics are unclear, somethings happen and others doesn't, it's a fucking mess, and that issue is by design. PoE wants PoE to be played a certain way, and that certain way is ingrained in the culture that PoE is; you need wiki, 3rd party, extra sites, so you can get (sometimes) accurate information about things they don't bother explaining in game. It's not that we want to, everyone that plays PoE after certain point is forced into it.

I remember clearly when i started playing PoE, i was having fun, discovering, testing, then i hit a brick wall. Nothing i did was working, my character didn't work, nothing i did improved and crafting was simply the worst experience ever. What did i do? Searched. That's what PoE forces you to do. You can have fun with PoE, but as 98,4% of steam players proved, that fun ends well before you get to Maven.

I actually would want to see anyone playing PoE and use zero aids, having zero experience and that person reaching red maps with a viable build.

So yeah, grinding for infinitesimal improvements or playing poe.trade isn't the majority casual idea of fun. Players that go deep into PoE are in one way or another min-maxers or simply forced because that's how devs want it to be.

P.S.: 99% of the reason that happens is build diversity and crafting. They gave us freedom, and that freedom comes with a heavy cost.

Preach gaming did just that.
