As new player to PoE it was fun till 90+ level...

As new player to PoE i wanna say its fun game completely ruined with losing 10% experience at 90+ level where you can get one shot but random mob no matter how much defence you have. What an idiotic thing to put in the game on normal mode..., it should be only in Ruthless mode.

i would say the 10% penalty is not what you should be pissed at.

its actually possible to level with a shitty build if you avoid difficult/dangerous encounters.

what you should be pissed at is AN mods. due to their random nature, they can provide enemies a sharp damage boost if certain combinations align together.

i m really sick and tired of having a blast vapourizing everything while mapping only to suddenly die from a huge damage spike.

While it's technically true that there is always some mod/monster combination that can annihilate you disregarding of your defensive setup, if you build a somewhat decent char and pay minimum attention to map mods and what altars you click, you won't get oneshot all the time.
I don't even care about dying before 95 because i'll get there anyway and even after that it's fine unless you die like every map which again, is just you having no/bad defenses or being careless with mods.
Well you should never lose experience you already earned, thats just terrible game design, if i wanna torture myself and waste my time i would play Ruthless/Hardcore. And i bet 90% of new players that make it to 90+ level quit because of this bs mechanic. Lucily D4 is almost out so this game will be irrelevant soon.
In addition to an age old argument of exp penalty being designed when poe was much slower and cleaner visually, magnitude of AN system makes players unable to assess threats on screen intuitively and fast enough. The same mob type may hit like a wet noodle or may suddenly crit, wipe your flasks, breach your resistances, and oneshot you, all without telegraphing.

I hope GGG didn't really believe people would stop and read tiny lines of text on every mob, when their own lootrates demand slaying mobs in thousands to get any meaningful loot.

And I'd pay to see lead visionaries of this design like Mr.Wilson to actually sit down and stream themselves playing new league in hardcore or ruthless without debug commands, to show us silly peons how it's done. Willing to bet that Mr.Wilson will get killed in hardcore before lvl 80, from some random spike in the blink of an eye :)

And in ruthless he'd likely run off increasing map drop rate 2 hours after reaching maps :kap:
If you are struggling after 90 then you dont have that good defenses. Especially with how available map drops are at this point, the struggle should be 98+ (if you actually have good defenses).

And that is assuming lvling with maps, not paying some 5 way service.

If you have already spent a lifetime on this game, and a fortune on supporter packs, sure. Yet amount of people put off by this design is likely much bigger than "gitgud" gang numbers here.
Yes I agree with the OP. The exp penalty is a detriment to the game and is an asinine feature.

I have heard the whole "Chase goal" argument and the "Need some penalty for dying" and they are just rubbish.

The chase goal doesn't exist because for most players it is just not obtainable at all, therefore they either forego hitting level 100 or just quit the game as they don't see it as obtainable. If you want it to be a chase goal it firstly needs to be viewed as obtainable.

And quite simply, there does not need to be a punishment for dying once, your punishment if you continually die in the same zone is your loss of portals and the potentially expensive map/boss token you just used.

Dying is a natural thing in Hack & Slash games like PoE, multiple deaths either tell you that you are not strong enough for the content/missing a crucial part of your defense/offense or that you are doing something wrong mechanic wise, it is how players learn.

Removing progression for trying to progress and learn the game is effectivley punishing someone for spending their time playing your game.

However I think the biggest issue is that there seems to be a lack of "Map Progression" the currency required to "Juice" maps is quite expensive for most people. So it is not worth running an easier blue map with scarabs and vaal tokens as you will not make enough currency to sustain this and improve your character at the same time, unless you get a lucky break. I think this "Early-Mid" point of the game is where a lot of players quit because it becomes too hard and inefficiant to run higher qual, high tier maps and the low tier, low qual maps don't seem to give enough to make meaningful improvements.

On top of this the convoluted ways to actually make currency in this game make it even more difficult for newer players to stick to it. Even looking at a lot of guides they tell you what map mods to run ect ect but do not tell you how to actually make what you get into Divines/Chaos.

These strats also quite often require quite a large amount of capital before you begin the process, most people will not spend their hard earned currency to attempt to make more unless they are certain it will work.

Having a clearer progression path and a more efficient currency making system would definatly help keep some of the newer players on board. Hopefully they address some of these issues in PoE V2
Same opinion here.

I`ve been playng this game from beta and i never got to level 100. Before this league i didn`t had too much time to play the game and i didn`t care to much, having some fun 2-3 hours a day is nice, but this league i spent at least 5 hours every day playng, im level 94 now on my raider and i can`t run rare red maps over tier 13. My character is strong but not that strong, i might get a rare monster who oneshots me or one with insane life/es, leech or regen, when it feels like i do no damage, not to say monsters from expedition who have damage imunity like forever, and many mechanics in the game. loot drop is a shitload of junk, divines almost inexistent, i got only 5 this league, i found a good ring (except the ones i use) to sale for 100 chaos, the rest was total junk, i bought most of my gear, with chaos orbs obviosly.

I hope in the next league they will remove this stuppid experience penalty, so i can enjoy playng but i doubt that, anyway, there are other games on market, probably going for D4 or back to Median XL.
