It has been explained many, many times.
Read the manifesto. No Auction House. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.

There is a cost to being able to trade items for currency, that cost is trading.
As annoying as it is sometimes its necessary. Most people that want an ah probably never played d2 back in the day where you had to make a game and wait for someone to join to trade, poe trade system is infinitely better than any other arpg. AH doesnt belong --> see d3. |

" That manifesto is complete nonsense. The console version literally already has an auction house mechanic and nothing that manifesto claims would happen if one was implemented has happened to the console version. It has not been explained "many, many times" it has been explained ONE time almost a decade ago and every inch of the ONE time it was explained made zero sense then and makes even less sense now. PoE is not the only loot driven MMO that exists where player upgrade are tradable, but it IS the only one that exists without an auction house. Furthermore, the trade system we have now already has every problem that manifesto claims that it solves. We already have bots controlling prices, we already have price fixers running wild, we already have a game where drop rates are so abysmally low that trading is REQUIRED to get anywhere without studying for years to get a PHD in PoEology followed by wasting 50 hours per day grinding to get 500billion garbage items and 0.1 mediocre items. I'm being obviously hyperbolic here because I'm sick and tired of people sucking up to GGG and their broken logic and failing design philosophy all because Chris said a thing that one time. This feature literally already exists in this game, just not for PC players. This feature already existing has not changed a god damned thing except that console players get to spend what little free time they have available actually PLAYING THE GAME instead of being forced to waste it all on a broken trade system that NEEDS to be improved. Bottom line is GGG is just lazy af and will gaslight their community to no end before they add any given thing to the game because its cheaper and easier for them that way. They nearly never add new endgame content and when they do its usually just reskinned versions of old mobs and old maps with new numbers under the hood. They never fix bugs unless those bugs either help the player or completely break the game at its core as is evident by the fact that tooltips have been broken since release in freaking 2013. All they do is put forth the absolute bare minimum investment to roll out another half-baked league mechanic they couldn't be bothered to think through the implications of, nerf it later, then rinse and repeat while selling the most expensive microtransactions I've ever seen, like a battle pass that contains 1/5th the amount of content as every other game at 3x the price. Maybe if we all stop jumping up to defend these completely horrible business practices they wont feel like they can keep getting away with it anymore and we might see some actual legitimate improvements made to the game instead of just another bad league mechanic adding even more needlessly intense RNG that nobody asked for. |

" You have not actually read and understood the manifesto... Directly addressing your postulate above: " It is generally the same for your other claims. |

" Except that that isn't true AT ALL. Go to the trade site right now and look just to the right of the search bar where it says "PC", then click that and you will notice there is a dropdown menu that allows you to select platform. Now take note of the face that console players can use the trade site too! This means that console has BOTH easy search AND easy trade completion while PC has ONLY easy search. You simply find the exact item you want on the trade site, then use that information to locate the exact same item on the market board. And yes, I have read the nearly decade old manifesto, the entire longwinded, insultingly nonsensical thing. Even if any of that made sense then, which it didnt, it sure as hell no longer does. The fact of the matter is that other loot-driven games where player upgrade items are tradable do, in fact, exist and they do, in fact, have an auction house and that auction house does not, in face, destroy their economy. Quite the opposite actually because they allow the devs to set a trade tax which acts as a currency sink to help stabilize the economy, a currency sink that PoE used to have back when spamming chaos was the only way to craft but no longer does now that nobody does that anymore because it would be an idiotic thing to do with Delve and Harvest and all sorts of other means of easy crafting that dont have you dumping huge chunks of your player-trade currency down the drain. The manifesto no longer applies to the state of the game today in any way whatsoever right down to the fact that they even reference Exalts as being the standard high-end trade currency when they arent anymore. If they cant even be bothered to go edit a single forum post to change that one word to be accurate to the reality of the game today what makes you think they even know what it says anymore, let alone that any of that is still remotely applicable? Console got access to the trade site because GGG is going to phase out the console Trade Market. Or have they closed it already? Not sure, but if they haven't they will be doing so. Though there still aren't any cross-platform plans that I'm aware of, they're working on "feature" parity across all platforms.
Regardless, there's really no point to be made there in favor of an auction house. Console players get stuck with the same lacking trade system as the rest of us. I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.

" Them having plans to remove it doesn't change the fact that them having access to both had no negative impact on their economy. This proves beyond doubt that it wouldn't wreck the economy because it didn't wreck the economy. If having both was going to destroy the game it would've done it by now but it didn't. That's because better features make a game better, worse features make a game worse. You don't make a game better by making it deliberately miserable to play and wasting half your players time funneling them to a website. Last edited by Blortad#3432 on May 26, 2023, 2:36:55 AM

" First, console players, especially trading console players, are so few in numbers they don't affect the economy. Second, 'wrecking the economy' is not the issue GGG is concerned about. You should read the manifesto because you quite clearly hasn't understood the issue. |
