Should drinking potions while frozen and gating in a boss fight be removed in higher difficulties?

I think, from what the OP describes, the gating issues with boss fights are a big deal, trivializing boss fights.

I propose bosses have a de-spawn/reset mechanic. That if you try to gate them, they reset.

A great example is the Ancients fight in Diablo 2 (one of the only fights that was intriguing and not a spam pot/TP-fest), in which any portals you had open in the boss-fight area would de-spawn once the fight began, and the bosses would also de-spawn if you opened a portal. It made the fight a lot better than any of the other boss fights. I would love some similar mechanic.

Drinking potions while frozen seems like a silly thing, it needs to be fixed and the boss fight rebalanced if it's impossible to win without it.

Say that the boss will kill you if you get frozen at 25%, no matter what. Simple solution: Don't let yourself drop that low. It will lead to a better boss fight, having to know what's coming up and adapting to it makes for an interesting game.

For the boss-health and portal issue... just do what every single MMO does - if you escape the enemies agroo for any reason, they heal quickly back to 100%.

Why not do basically the same thing here?

My example had more then one, permenant difficulty, each with their own permadeath child leagues...

I don't see that being implemented now.

So even if they had an ironman league, give it it's own permadeath child.

It's not implemented right now just like all the other leagues, doesn't mean theydon't have plans for it.

For instance the cutthroat league will be a mode with both hardcore and non-hardcore. One can presume that there would be other leagues with both options as well.

This could be something more designed for a league than a base part of the game. Although, they haven't really began the hard fine tuning yet as it's still in quite an early phase.

I would prefer it not be a league since most leagues are designed temporary IIRC.

So I was watching a stream of a beta tester playing on the highest difficulty and he was able to defeat a pretty nasty boss because even though he got frozen a bunch of times all he did was drink potions the entire time he was frozen.

Personally I think on the hardest difficulty you should not be able to drink potions while frozen.

Another thing I saw is when things got dicey he just gated out and as soon as he stepped out of the gate he was fully healed and his mana was fully restored and he stepped back into the fight with him fully restored while the boss was still damaged.

Personally I think on the hardest difficulty the Boss should get fully restored as the player does if the player steps though a gate or maybe bosses can even close gates or prevent players from gating.
*EDIT* If the player is in a group the no gate rule can apply or if they gate out(flee) that can't re-enter till the Boss is dead.

Lastly, is there a timer on potion drinking? If there is not there should be on the hardest difficulty.

Let the hardest difficulty mean something and where the big boys play not anybody who can just exploit and game the system.

Bad idea seriously that's just restricting game play

harder difficulties shouldn't remove features and what not to make the game harder it should be hard enough where you NEED them things
I wouldn't call what mentioned "features".

I do like the idea of making harder difficulties hard enough where you might need to gate once in a while I don't think it should a tactic required/used in a boss fight.

The point I'm trying to make is you shouldn't make harder difficulties by changing the way the game is played if you can spam potions in the first difficulty you should be able to in the hardest difficulty

if the hardest difficulty is too easy with potion spam then either limit potions the entire game (bad idea imo) or make the hardest difficulty harder so you have to spam potions

I used the word feature because I couldn't think of a better word (I'm still not sure what word would fit better) anyways hopefully you get my point
