So coming off the heels of the D4 Beta and massive Twitch Marketing, GGG presents...Crucible?

I doubt many players even completed more than one or two nodes during the entire campaign

I did 1 x 4 node in the campaign.
This league mechanic is dull as dish water.

Never believe PR from someone whose (self appointed in this case) job is to do PR.

Its like when Chris says risk vs reward, don't jump on the hype wagon just roll your eyes because you know it'll be bullshit :p

Yeah true, but wow this cycle was particularly bad.

"Ruthless is a side project, we kept the 6 best masteries, no nerfs so no manifesto needed, and 4 month league so we had extra time to get it right" is wildly misleading at best, and at worst, flat out dishonest.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

the masteries is par for course in terms of GGG changes, the patch notes themselves are fine.

Its the league mechanic that is shocking, its implementation is just poor i would actively have to try to make it as bad as it is and I don't believe anyone actually did any real play testing for how it felt to play in a real game situation.

Synthesis had a similar problem for example, but synthesis was also wildly ambitious this is pretty unambitious when it comes down to it.

Its hard to design something that gives so little feedback, how could they setup a mechanic where the answer to every question is I don't know.

How hard will the encounter be? No idea
How much crucible XP will I get? No idea
how long do I need to hold the button for? No don't know that one either
Did my co-op partner do it right? Not sure

Thats before you even get into the fact that it will inevitably be 2-6 cold damage you can't chill added to your weapon for the 11th time. In this circumstance reddit are right, this is a precursor league to scourge, unfortunately we've already played scourge.

They've done a good job making risk vs reward mechanics ever since Ultimatum, their systems just feel bad because they've been scaling back rewards (except for Sentinel lol) while doubling down on making the risk half of the equation challenging for the 50 div builds. The core mechanics are there, but it seems less and less likely that they will release anywhere near balanced (or in this case, a smooth progression).
You say that they did a good job then curtail it with enough qualifiers that its clear they didn't :p

Its hard to actually come up with examples of it working that weren't just linear scaling and/or unrelated rewards. Sentinels was completely separate pretty much, Sanctum had good reward and no risk, Scourge was massive risk no reward and Lake was massive risk no reward.

Sentinel was about the only one of these that was fun and actually matched the description but as I mentioned it wasn't really rewarding in the way suggested, it was if you continue the reward entertainment lol.
The mobs should at least drop some loot FFS.

Who thought of this garbo.
I liked Lake of Kalandra better...

Honestly I'm expecting a monster nerf or boost to how fast you get experience to the items.
It's kinda annoying having to go through 3-4 maps to get to 1 node even when fully charged.
Yeah, it's bad timing to introduce a half-baked mess of a filler league right now. I'm getting tired of saying this, but the idea of skill trees on weapons? Awesome. The implementation/execution? Sloppy - at best.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
