WASD
how hard can it be for people to comprehend such a simple mathematical concept... if you can't rotate the camera, you can only move in 8 directions with wasd, and poe would be awful that way

"See how easy it is to get a message across when you say what you actually mean instead of something different? Glad we got there in the end. I can assure you that lashing out at people for not reading your mind is not going to help make communication any clearer in future. Mistakes are normal; you can just go “oops, sorry about that” instead of blaming other people, it’s fine. |

" that's exactly what I meant, any person who's ever played a game with wasd would immediately recognize the limitations it imposes so I didn't feel it's necessary to explain it in a more detailed manner. wasd only works if you can rotate the camera, or it's a 2D game from early 90s. " If you are limited to 8 directions with WASD you are doing something wrong. This is NOT a valid argument against including the OPTION for others. Last edited by wardonis#7167 on Jul 2, 2023, 4:10:47 PM

" please explain how you're not limited to 8 directions with wasd. this is the sole reason why sony introduced the analog stick to their controllers, the wasd method is awful and not practical for anything. I'd also like to add to Auspexa's side: wasd movement and function is OLDER and far more limited than the current mouse-directed movement. It's the reason why nearly every handheld device and controller has joysticks, instead of just a d-pad. Lets drop all technological advancements and go back to OG gameboy and nintendo controller mode!
Think about old school text-driven games, and room-by-room adventure games. Those work with wasd movement, but a 3d game with full range of motion pretty much only works with a mouse or joystick. "IF you are limited to 8 directions...you are doing something wrong"...hmm that is a pretty tasty statement right there. Functionally you can ONLY go 8 directions with WASD. W, WA, A, AS, S, SD, D, DW. How would you go MORE than 8 directons?! Holding ASD makes you FLY? Or maybe if you press the A button down 50% of the way, while holding W you go slightly more Northwest than if you pressed it down all the way? That's not how keyboards work. For WASD to work, you would alternatively need some way to control camera angle and aim for attacks and spells. Which means you would ALREADY have to use something like a mouse, or an entirely separate WASD setup for the camera and aiming (itself limited in the same way movement is). So now instead of a single mouse, you have 8 buttons on top of all the ones you would still need to press to cast spells and skills and potions. "Great, but given that keyboards don't have joysticks, WASD is the next best option for this kind of control scheme. By all means allow it to work with controllers people plug in too if they prefer the finer directional control, that's fine. Supporting a variety of control peripherals is supposed to be a strength of PCs. Nobody is proposing we "drop all technological advancements". If you prefer to move with the mouse, move with the mouse. "Um, there is no need for controls for a fixed camera. Aiming attacks and spells, yes, obviously. (Practically) Everyone already has a mouse plugged in, for a start; that would be the first option for that. Last edited by GusTheCrocodile#5954 on Jul 3, 2023, 1:40:55 AM

Because you can lift fingers. Yes at any one time there may be an illusion of fixed direction but that is only because you are looking at it in a freeze frame. You only need 2 fingers to do 8 directions at anyone time and can move and alter thise within a fraction of a second. Like i said, if you guys are limited to 8 directions with WASD you're doing something wrong. And if you feel its subpar, then you should have absolutely no concern for it to be added as an accessibility OPTION for other players. You are not being forced to you it. Also, There is absolutely no need to do anything special to the camera. None whatsoever. Its literally just taking the left thumbstick x/y and assigning max values for wasd. Thats it. Thats all we need. And it would help people with a bad wrist or other problems actually be able to play the game too. Last edited by wardonis#7167 on Jul 6, 2023, 4:36:04 AM
