Tier 1 Lava Lake boss totally ruined my will to play

As some of the others have already said: do not even attempt Crimson Township Map

Lava Lake is a paradise, even if you alch it and corrupt it while being 100 delirious. Crimson township's map boss can only be killed if you have enough DPS to do it in a few seconds.
I just wanted to share my frustration as a returning - but never entered end game - player until now.

Have died 2 times on HC to the adds in the boss room (lava lake/kitava). My build doubts are through the roof so to speak.

The build did fine so far, the adds literally kill the fun to even play again.
This thread is the only thing keeping me on a thin line hooked.

///
Melee dual strike raider, 3,4k effective life, all res capped, 17% chaos res, 28k sheet dmg, at 25+ rage its 40k+ with 30%+ crit, mainly physical dmg, 40% armor, some evasion, some block, minor overwh resis, around 400hp reg/s.

Took less than 10 hits to enter next phase where kitava spawns the adds, i ignore the heart, kill most adds and the one with increased phys dmg kills me in 3 hits while i spam the instant potion button. Had decoy totem up somewhere.
///

Btw, because i have no clue how to map, i just ran lava lake like 4 times total, had it completed with another char earlier.

From what i gather here: i shall not touch that boss again and the other map one mentioned here but can run the map itself.

As a sort of new player in this regards, the design is a death trap...
Damit, I got got by a necro

Learned that the hard way on my hardcore character.. had to abandon ship on that one.

But on another note: phased bosses should not be in maps. The innocence fight one is stupid because of this. I have provided feedback about how awful some of the maps were and got white knighted (which is why the odd trash map exists with bad design). I’m cheering for you OP, let GGG have it. I’ve had similar comments and am surprised you also didn’t get white knighted like yours truly.
when i got to mapping. to find out that lava lake was an "INTRODUCTION TO MAPPING"
i immediately felt GGG is losing their god damned minds.

my builds are usually weak and sure i can beat it but its one of the harder tier bosses in the game.

its harder mechanically, it has invulnerable phases, it has huge aoes with huge damage.

but i quickly forgot about it as i was rushing for map completions back then.

seeing this post reignited some rage within me. coz seriously, this is supposed to introduce newbies to mapping and get them hooked. it feels more like a harsh shove. even back when lava lake was t16 i tried my best to avoid running it as i knew the boss was ballsack hard nuts. unless of course i had 0 % xp, even then i felt like it was for the purpose of clearing the map.

i m thankful for orbs of horizon in this case

if you think that it's hard - wait until t13 maps and you will meet Plaza and Orchard boss.. good news - you can skip both of them and return for your atlas point later

In your case i would suggest Frost Blades Raider going crit.

This way you have better clear and don't get overwhelmed by adds in boss arenas like in this case. FB is a known solid clear skill and going crit freezes enemies which is an additional defensive layer to some extent.

Also i'm a bit confused. Is your account maybe buggy as it says (is open profile for everyone to read) you have not reached maps yet? Normally achievements gets instantly updated.

Anyways. I would not recommend playing HC as a returning player. Better play SC to get used to the new balancing of monsters GGG did over the past 2 years and then maybe if you're confident try HC again.
Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks

Unfortunately players in this game overtune their characters to a degree where they deal infinite damage and take almost none. The consequence of this is that many enemies and bosses are just really annoying to fight on an average build.

Even worse people can think that their supa-meta-pobnapkinmathed character then is the norm and not the exception and go to posts like this and just say "git gud"

However it is really nice when the community gives people ideas and solutions to their build.

Still though, this feedback is important for new player retention and skill balancing. All in all a lot of poe could go through a sanity check and the devs could cap a bunch of things to just make it smoother. But that would take an engine and logic rewrite, kind of expensive and risky for a little payoff.
I promise you, almost no one is fighting a tier 1 map boss with overtuned gear or dealing infinite damage when they first start playing a league. Maybe on their 2nd or 3rd characters, but that sort of meta progression is common to all arpgs.

That being said, this sounds like a build or gearing problem. If you're inexperienced at making effective builds (which most people are) it'd be best to follow a build guide from a reliable content creator and buy/craft some basic gear before you start mapping.

Meta builds are meta for a reason, because they're easy to gear and play & therefore appeal to most. If you're trying to come up with some hipster off-meta build to feel special, then that's on you.
It's no problem when you're playing SC. But in HC league (like upcoming gauntlet, for example) I wouldn't fight lava lake boss until I'm lvl 90 or something (fully ascended, with lvl 20 gems and somewhat decent gear).

The fight is way too chaotic and rippy. Too much shit is flying everywhere and the damage is kinda ridiculous. It doesn't feel like T1 map at all. Whenever I focus mobs I get slapped by boss attack, and whenever I evade boss attacks I get mauled by mobs. Fuck that.
The way campaign should be played by your second and any subsequent characters: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3772827
