Tier 1 Lava Lake boss totally ruined my will to play

They lied, again. The AN cancer is still very real

That boss room is a prime example but it can also happen in other situations where you are confined to a small space and a bunch of rares spawns(delve/heist)

So, there's at least three factors.

GGG not doing their homework (placement of maps).
OP unnecessarily alching the map.
RNG throwing nasty rares in the mix.

Well, and it's always been a step up in difficulty going from campaign to maps. One of my main gripes with PoE and the reason why I liked them reworking Act I and II to make them more difficult.

Then i started mapping. Tier one yellow map totally ruined my will to play. Lava Lake boss is way too overtuned, too much, too strong adds. I died like 5 times, without possibility to act in 2 of 4 deaths, being stunlocked\frozen, etc. Thats too much for tier 1, thats too hard for tier 1.

This is quite true, Those adds are 10 X harder than Kitava is to kill. They are absurd, and it's really only one of them, that Fire immune HP regen one. That damn thing is near impossible to kill with multiple builds.

What? The T1 Lava Lake version of Kitava is actually weaker than the story version - at least with easy map mods.

It's the Adds not the boss. First time I did lava lake I could not kill the golden ad at all. Killed Kitava and couldn't even move the energy shield of the golden mob.

It was absurd, I was playing WoC ignite at the time and that mob is a super hard counter to a fire based ignite build. I was in my 80s with a respec before I could kill that add. Both my boys said the same thing too, my oldest was playing a reap/CF build and he couldn't kill it, my second oldest played a Seismic build and he was able to kill it, but he died trying to kill the add.

It's the damn HP regen on that mob, it's absurdly high.
So you apparently had no problems killing Kitava minutes prior to entering your Lava Lake map where you suddenly struggled to kill... Kitava?

Maybe don't alch the map with bullshit mods while you're at it? I could understand if it was a yellow map, but you only need your white maps to be magic to receive completion.

Sigh, did you read what was said? Kitava is not the problem. It's his adds that are the problem. The adds are impossible to kill for some builds, the HP regen of the gold one is way to high and nearly impossible for many builds and straight up impossible for a fire ignite build. When I was lvl 72 I could not even damage the gold ads energy shield. I had to leave the map, that was after it killed me twice.

Dear Diary...
Unless things have changed drastically since my time in the Atlas (brief and boresome as it was), then the 'tiers' are less a strict distinction of stratified difficulty and more of a guideline. This is, I think, an unavoidable side effect of having such different mobs, layouts and bosses. As someone else said, there's always the Strand: a T3 map of such linear design that running it is much easier than likely most other maps beneath it tier-wise. Again, that was true when I played. Might be different now.

And then there's the other side of difficulty: player style. Every...and I mean every...single time someone says 'I found this too hard', someone here will always respond, 'lol it was easy' and it's usually down to play style/commitment to gear tuning/trade (I_Know you know what I mean here). There's no real universal difficulty, no wall over which Exiles can bond and commiserate the way other gaming communities can and do, other than those completely within GGG's control: the metagame obstructions so often lamented on here.

But in-game difficulty is virtually impossible to balance.

And if that's true, then it's probably not something GGG can really much about, no matter how much homework they do. Probably the closest they could get to balancing it is to acknowledge that Boss X of Map Y is too hard for some playstyles and trivial for others -- in that case, they can freely nerf said boss encounter (including adds and any other arbitrary difficulty spikers) and not make it any more 'trivial' for those already wrecking it. But you and I both know that the game is nothing if not a spider's web, and plucking one strand can cause all sorts of chaos.

And I do maintain that IF The Atlas is endgame and not 'actually the game', then it is past the point where players should expect to be able to clear content 'their' way, and instead pull on all their available resources to tackle it. That may mean changing build altogether, but it also might just mean using skills that they otherwise dismissed for whatever reason. Buuuut since the game insists in forcing players to commit to a build fairly early, then really the game itself before endgame, which can be cleared with a very wide range of builds, is itself a trap...Unless you approach it as nothing more than the period during which you assemble your pre-conceived endgame build.

I can't imagine a bigger waste of an actual game than letting it become nothing more than a precursor to its endgame, in which even the story bosses are just prototypes. I am all for clever recycling of game assets but PoE doesn't just recycle its best assets; it completely abuses them. Wolcen did a lot wrong but one of its smarter moves was keeping big story bosses out of their version of Mapping. This allowed them to tune said bosses to where players are expected to be at that point in the story AND ensured that said encounters never got stale or had to be turned into nightmare scenarios just to be more 'difficult'.

Surely PoE had enough reusable assets to populate the Atlas without stealing the thunder from their iconic act bosses.

And yes, that this is where the game is, in which no encounter from the campaign is sacred or unique, is precisely why threads like this exist. GGG just didn't know when to stop cannibalising their own core game.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

@OP
thanks for posting this, I had exactly the same response this this map, totally out of proportion to the stated map level.

Did you not read what I said? Why did he unnecessarily alch the map when white maps only need to be magic for completion?

If I could complete the same map with 0 problems in SSFHC some 5 hours into the start, completely fresh, on a melee build, so can you guys in SC with the luxury of playing builds with much more damage and ability to die 6 times a map. You also don't have to kill the adds at all, you can just run around the arena dodging them while kiting Kitava, I can usually understand and even get behind most complaints, but this one is ridiculous.

I even got relieved to see this map on tier 1 because usually it's a tier 15-16, ideally it wouldn't even be in the atlas, but now you got to take care of it right on the start, out of the two seems like a much better option to me.

Dude, you dont need to run it yellow to get your atlas point...... if you cannot handle T1 you need to remake your build sorry to say and not trying to be mean. This is not diablo ..... Use a transmute orb than alteration it until you get a reasonable mod. When doing red corrupted maps you do same thing than regal orb than corrupt.......
