Did the Defensive rework actually make things worse?

Why do you say Spell Suppression is mandatory? I'm playing Trickster (right side of the tree) with "Wrath of Cosmos" in my atlas tree and I don't use spell suppression.

To me Determination+Molten Shell is a lot more broken then Spell Suppression. Also Grace+Iron Reflexes. Or Purity of Elements + Lethe Shade.

Spell Suppression requires a lot of investment and defends you from what? A bunch of spells that you'd avoid anyway?
