P2P & Cosmetic Items
well my opinion is:
if you buy it, you need to use it, and will not be able to trade it in-game. trading cash shop items is the fastest way to set a p2w system, since there are companies who works selling and re-selling goodies in games, it will be difficulty to GGG to control it when Path of exile's community start to grown. i imagine that companies (I'd rather not mention ethnicity) are just waiting for PoE's launch to set their bots to farm and sells orbs and goodies. yeah, its a warning to GGG, they will show up, and they are used to ruin games economy, and games in general. and i'm not being racist, just realist Last edited by slevin06#3635 on May 24, 2012, 9:00:24 AM

Fact of the matter is right now we're all just speculating. Maybe it won't be an orb at all. Maybe you'll easily be able to toggle the effect on any item, and it doesn't matter how many items you turn the effect on (or off) for. Since the Kiwi is strictly a "right click to activate cosmetic effect" item, I personally envision that most items will be the same.
Orb of Fire: Right click to make your weapon glow with flames. Black Armor: Right click to make your character appear in a suit of black armor. Orb of Pants: Right click to make your Templar appear to be dressed modestly. Blood Orb: Right click to add extra blood and guts to the game. Sexy Orb: Right click to add some respectable knockers to your female character. That's how I'm picturing it to work, but who knows? One thing is for sure: I sincerely doubt that there will be any option to trade cash shop items, nor should there be. Last edited by teacherpeter#1699 on May 24, 2012, 9:22:45 AM

What i don't understand is... how is it "pay to win" if its cosmetic?
If you mean the player is making a ton of gold.. the gold that the player is making is gold that was already in the game, it's more of a gold sink than anything. |

It's P2W in a sense because if I have an item you can NEVER obtain on your own and you already have all the super awesome gear you want, you're more than willing to part with extra gear or orbs you have lying around, to get access to that thing which costs real money.
Thus, people will purchase 10 cosmetic items, not for themselves, but so they can effectively "buy" in-game items from high level players that farm a lot. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282 Last edited by anubite#0701 on May 24, 2012, 4:58:25 PM

" And that should be the end of the topic, seriously. I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again: in the extremely unlikely chance that PoE goes pay-to-win, the egg will be all over my face, because I'll probably STILL suck. ...I think we all should just let GGG get on with whatever they have in mind; ours is the job to give feedback on what we know, what we experience, not to speculate on things they've already spoken quite vehemently against. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" In the end, everyone is getting what they want. player 1 gets his cosmetic items and player 2 gets the item he wants. But once player 2 gets the items he wants... what reason does he have to buy cosmetic items... So the cycle would end up breaking.. |

Clearly you don't want to listen and are unable to comprehend the ramifications of what you suggest.
We as beta testers can't decide what GGG will do in the long run, but this idea just goes straight against their business plan that has been around for a heck of a lang time now. I'm sure they have read your suggestion and if they think it's a good idea they will implement it, and won't in the other case. Never argue with a zombie, he'll drag you down to his level and eat your brains. |

" I am concerned about this too. Have GGG mentioned any ways they will deter this "gold selling" behaviour? Also, any word on whether the Cash Shop cosmetic items will be permanent or will they expire after say 90 days? Ascension tied to Lab is the worst thing GGG has done...apart from GGG's philosophy on Trading. Oh and Gambling Loot boxes. And selling out to tencent.
I used to love GGG. I supported to ensure GGG remained independent, now I just wish I could get my money back. -_- |

People who buys cosmetics can't buy power if the cosmetic items are non-tradeable.

I would have to agree with the OP on this one.
