It's building fatigue, not making the game challenging
The most pathetic disparity between visual and damage was Stonebeak, Battle Fowl. Firing a Default Attack that ripped ~3k life off me and was barely visible or audible above everything else Meanwhile full screen nukes do almost nothing to me most of the time Being instantly killed by something I can't see or hear doesn't make me feel threatened and adjust, as it's already too late |

I'm not recording every single death that happens, but its pretty obvious when some mobs are just out of whack with the content they appear in. It had 80% increased physical damage, a 40% physical damage aura, multiplied by the modifiers of the league, boosted stuns on hit with a 25% chance to double stun, and overwhelmed 10% of my physical damage reduction, which was around 80% at the time, so like another 50% damage multiplier. Have you played the league mechanic at all? You're cool with the amount of burst in higher difficulty tiles? You can kite things sure, if you're playing an ability that doesn't require you to stand still. Good luck if you're pure melee. Just look at the player numbers, you can't stand still in the current meta, you'll get decimated. You run into a rogue exile or boss that traps you in place? Better hope there aren't any spooky rare combinations around. Or if they've been so buffed by auras/hasted/soul eater you can't kite them without popping a quicksilver or silver flask. How about when you think you can handle % phys as extra element as a map affix, but then a mob spawns with multiple increased physical mods, 50-100% additional conversion to that element, and inflicts exposure on hit. Theres no incentive to push your character, if you're trying to play it close to where mobs are scary with the default modifiers, bad AN combos make things basically impossible. Even when 99% of the monster in a map tier/affix level feel basically AFKable there are still situations where extremely dangerous monsters can appear. The variance is way too high. Running Lava Lakes because its easy extra currency due to rares in the boss phases, I can sleep through most 8 mod corrupted variants of the maps, unless there are bad AN rolls. Got instantly pasted one heart phase because both the kitava's herald rares spawned in with echoist and I had 4 mortar attacks hit me at once from either corner of the screen. Its the fact the stats on these rares can vary by like +/-300% particularly when you get them multiplied by map and atlas effects, different base monsters, and league modifiers. Theres zero consistency in this patch. Investing in defenses just feels like there are slightly less things that can one-shot you, not that it gives you actual mechanics to play around. Combat is extremely shallow. Investing in juice is more of a gamble than ever because you need the right AN combinations for it to payoff, the normal returns from base league mobs was massively reduced. I can't tell the difference in loot or difficulty between a T16 with 40% quant worth of mods, and one with 200% quant, because it depends entirely on what the archnemesis dice roll says. I've gotten explosions from the boss adds on very easy rolled maps and nothing from extremely beefed up 8 mod corrupted maps. Same thing with damage, it just randomly spikes. On "AVERAGE" I'm doing great, I've made a ton of item progress this league. But its some of the least fun I've had. Everything feels like a meaningless slog and I'm just playing a huge slot machine, if my goal wasn't only able to be accomplished in Lake of Kalandra, I would have quit this league early just like I did last league. Max block and crit damage reduction are very good in this league.
Damage is very high, crits become lethal since the game still gives us around 4k hp with a basic tree yet the damage has 3X'd. Our life nodes need a boost, like 25%. 5k hp feels alot better in todays poe than 3k did years ago due to multiple damage sources that can crit. Get a sheild until your overleveling monsters |

" I just got done dying to a 3-essence rare that was spewing fireball novas of some sort. My 4.8k life, 75 all res, 100 suppress at 53% effectiveness character got ONE SHOT by a single fireball. 40k damage from a tiny red speck the size of my character's head from a relatively tame essence mob. As reference, I recently face tanked the ENTIRE Eater of Worlds fight (minus the auto-one-shot phase of course) with no problem. No video because I don't record myself playing games (weird right?), but I'll tell you, coming back in to look AROUND said god mob, and getting off-screen one shot AGAIN by a single fireball with 0 enemies on screen...yeah...boogeyman or not, some stuff is just way overkill. |

I think that atlas keystone which gives 25% less damage taken is pretty mandatory. Its weird that people are not talking about it yet. But if people will start talking there definitely going to be nerf hammer, because why not.

title is wrong, i was killed by a spike wave that blends in so well i had to watch it at 1/4 speed to see it, and even then i needed to be told what to look for. 115k ehp.

"My build has over a million EHP. And I have a different build that has inf EHP. It doesn't help I still die to oneshots. And gave up on defenses. GGG decided that map mods were too easy. As poeple had a choice to ignore mods like "Cannot Regen life". So they added AN that do all those things for you. Meaning there is AN mod out there to counter any build GGG hates. Despite GGG making those builds possible. This is how GGG says: "we fucking hate our player base." It is as simple as that. Once you realize this one truth. Than you can understand AN and many other changes. |
