no

is it better than D3 ?
that is a matter of opinion

but POE will NEVER make as much money as D3 did

Only time will tell, not that that matters when discussing the quality of each game.

and once you have completed the game, there is nothing more to do (at least in D2 you leveled up and gained stats after completing Hell; but in D3 you do nothing but "repetitive and grindy" runs of Inferno Act 1 - 4)

How is leveling in d2 less "repetitive and grindy" than farming loot in d3?

Because you are doing two things... you are farming loot and working towards your next level at the same time. Not to mention you had pvp to make the repetitive farming mean something.

That doesn't change anything. It's still as much "repetitive and grindy".

I agree, but there was a purpose. D3 is repetitive and grindy without any sense of purpose right now. Without a difficult to attain level cap and no PVP there is literally nothing to do past killing Diablo on Inferno. You can do the repetitive loot grind... but there is no purpose to it as the game sits.

Well, the guy I quoted simply said that D3 is "repetitive and grindy" but D2 somehow isn't.
I think the two things that hit me first about PoE that were way better than D3 were...
-The graphics (The graphics in PoE are 100times closer to what i was expecting on D3. they made it too cartoon-ish like WoW. I hate WoW...)

-And the skill tree (A bunch of paths that allow you to customize your char. i think is one of the best skill tree concepts out there in my opinion.)
PoE is way better than D3:

The only positive thing I can think of D3 is the graphics if you are in for the more cartoony artstyle theive addopted with this title.
I personally like the artstyle of PoE more because it captures the atmosphere better.

Diablo 3 is bad because of the dumb-down system and the RMAH. A person with half a brain can play diablo 3 because you cant make a wrong choise nor do you have to do any number crunching wich takes the fun out of designing builds.
The choices blizzard makes in patches are all centered on funneling people towards the RMAH so they can squeeze more money out of theire customers. People bought +% incr. attack speed items for lots and lots of dollars and the next thing they do is nerf IAS so people need to buy new stuff all over again.

Diablo 3 has a lack luster story which totally breaks down the the entire franchise. It has totally obsolete enemies, that entire cults does nothing for the story and could be skipped entirely.

Ive spent 44 euros (local retail price) on Diablo 3 and I wished I had spent it on PoE instead.
D3 was hyped beyond expectations and when you play it its just incredibly anticlimactic.
D3 compared to D1 and D2 is like eating a bowl of pistachios and then all of a sudden you eat one of those bad nuts that leave a disgusting taste in your mouth.
An achievement for getting 2 Monks to Level 60 ??? Really what the hell is the point in that achievement its utterly retarded there is absolutely no difference in rolling two monks in that game they have the exact same skills and attributes. If thats there idea of replayability well its no wonder there losing people so fast.
I remember playing Diablo 2 and I would replay the hell out of that game, but then in Diablo 3 after playing it through a couple times, I felt like 'Is there a point to this?'
PoE is pretty unique due to the passive skill tree
