The "nobody" claim is wrong. Some (including me) dont like the excessive loot and unending player power creep. So yes - 'Poverty mode' would be cool. Should be >99% less items. I dont want to spend my time optimizing item filters and doing item management because neither is fun for me - its just necessary "work".

Well I do think its important to consider further dividing the playerbase,

IMO giving players what they want is more important than some abstract goals like "dividing the playerbase". And we already have arbitrary division of playerbase with private leagues. And you can also argue that SSF players all play in their own account league. So going with this thought for SSF the only relevant effect would be a division of races/ladders.

I was always under the impression people didn't like excessive unrewarding loot or tiny things like splinters they have to pick up that aren't stacked, I don't think many people are asking to get rid of the actually useful loot.

For a VERY long time Chris and GGG dragged their feet on SSF. Their fear was that it would kill the trade leagues (population and activity), because many folks play solo as it is.

Now as it turns out SSF allowed them to do competitive events, and it became a nice spot for content creators. Unexpected at the time, but clearly a bonus.

That said, Hard Mode isnt being requested by many folks, in fact it was Chris that spoke it into existence after playing some D2R. He probably wished he hadn't now, and it remained an in-office pet project.

But now they have to release it, for a couple thousand players, which honestly, from a business point if view, likely isnt worth it at all. Meh, they made this problem themselves so not much sympathy from me that they get their balls busted about its delayed implementation.

Dont know how it is in trade league but in SSF there is too much (for it to be fun to pick up all) useful loot. If the goal is to race its not quite so bad but if the goal is to make a build then there is IMO way too much unfun looting and item management.

How would you know? My take on the business perspective: Hard mode is for streamers advertising the game. This has two advantages:

1. Streamers bring in more money because: Harder means more RIPs. Some watchers want to see competitive action (RIPs) not boring god mode. That crowd of watchers is better served with hard mode. Its also going to last longer than normal mode so longer advertising by streaming of the competitive aspect.

2. Due to there no longer being a need to accomodate streamers advertising competitive action in the normal mode there is now more leeway for casualizing the normal mode. This can be used to get more players/"supporters".

Everything is speculative. How would you know either? That somehow Ziz streaming Hard Mode for a few thousand viewers means anyone spends money on MTX? That's quite the leap.

Not to mention there are development costs, servers, maybe marketing, who knows. Its not like it's totally free to implement.

Point is, and what I was saying, is that Hard Mode isnt really a moneymaker imo. It's at best, a nod to a relative handful of players.

Yes, just like your respective posts here.

I agree that it seems strange from a business standpoint, especially when they already have a monetized hard mode in the game that has options to force limited itemization.

Great we agree the forums are just posts of opinions from PoE players. What breaking news. You literally could just post that on every thread. Its understood that when a person authors a post, its a reflection of their opinion. Welcome to the internet.
